Field CTO You own the technical truth of every deal you touch. Most consultancies split this into three jobs; one person pitches it, another owns the relationship, and a third inherits whatever got promised. Nobody owns the gap between what was sold, what the client needs, and what can ship. Here, you do. What are we looking for real solver? Solver? Absolutely. But not the usual kind. A technical deal is won or lost long before the contract. It happens in the first conversation, where someone either finds the real problem or sells the one they were handed. If you can walk into a CTO's room, find the problem beneath the brief, and design the one answer that will hold up under the client's scrutiny and our delivery team's, we want to connect.
• The technical voice a CTO trusts in the first meeting.
• Read a proposed architecture the way a CFO reads a P&L;: where the cost sits, where the risk sits, and what it takes to keep it running.
• Asks the question the room was avoiding.
• Can say "not yet" to a deal that looks signed, and is respected for it.
• Thinks in systems: this architecture, this baseline, this commitment, for years, not just this deal. This Isn't for Everyone. But if you've ever sat through a pre-sales demo and wondered what the system would look like on day 300, we'd love to chat with you. Your Mission: The Role You are the CTO our clients wish they had on speed-dial: the one person who can speak credibly for everything Searce engineers, from redesigning the process to building the system, the platform, the guardrails and the rollout. You earn a client CTO’s trust in the first meeting, elevate Searce’s engineering authority with hyper-scaler partners (Google Cloud, AWS), shape the deal around the real problem, and commit only to what the right Searce squads can deliver. Real problems never arrive sorted by service line. An agentic claims rebuild also needs a data platform, guardrails and a rollout plan. You compose that into one architecture, one baseline and one commitment. You work from first principles: find the objective before anyone names a solution, and add AI only where it removes a real bottleneck. If you have built production systems, sold them to people who could say no, and then lived with what you sold, this is your seat. Your Responsibilities Be the CTO in the room
• Own the technical conversation: Lead architecture and strategy discussions with client CTOs, CIOs and engineering heads, and earn the second meeting.
• Diagnose before you pitch: Run discovery that separates the stated ask from the underlying objective, and name the broken process before any solution. Own the technical win
• Be the technical owner of the region’s deals: Own the technical side of every significant deal, from qualification to signed scope,
alongside Solutions Consultants who own the hunt and the commercials. Advise on which deals to chase and which to walk away from.
• Compose one answer: Assemble everything Searce can build, from process redesign to platform, security and adoption, into one architecture and one baseline, so the client gets a single answer, not a stack of separate pitches.
• Hold the line from sold to shipped: Agree on the baseline before build, and sign off the technical baseline of every SOW with delivery leads before it goes out, so the outcome can be verified at the end. Turn proof into pipeline
• Execute Outcome-Driven PoCs: Architect time-boxed proof-of-value implementations tied directly to pre-agreed production KPIs and downstream delivery contracts. Show our engineering to the frontier Partners
• Make Searce’s capabilities visible to partners’ executives: With the Partnerships BU, who own the relationship, lead the technical showcases for partners’ executives and field leaders: architecture reviews, live demos, reference builds and joint deal strategy.
• Carry the partner roadmap back in: Bring early product direction from our partners to practice leads, so the field sells what is coming, not what shipped last year. Make every deal smarter than the last
• Leave reusable assets behind: Reference architectures, discovery playbooks and objection libraries, so the next field conversation starts at step four.
• Sharpen the solvers around you: Coach Solutions Consultants and Sales on technical selling, and feed field signals back to practice leads and Searce’s offerings. Functional Skills
• Executive Translation: Turns architecture into business consequence for a CEO, a CFO or a partners’ executives without losing a CTO’s respect.
• First-Principles Discovery: Separates what the client asked for from what they need.
• Whole-Problem Synthesis: Sees how a problem splits across process, platform, trust and adoption, and sequences the work.
• Commercial Judgment: Reads margin, scope risk and delivery cost well enough to say no to a bad deal.
• Influence Without Authority: Aligns Sales, Delivery and partners’ on one version of the truth.
• Structured Scoping: Converts ambiguity into bounded scope, explicit assumptions and a testable definition of done. Tech Superpowers
• Builder Roots: Hands-on engineering background. You have written, shipped and operated the systems you now design, and you can still read the code.
• Enterprise Cloud Architecture: Track record of designing distributed, high-throughput architectures on GCP or AWS, with deep expertise in FinOps, multi-region resiliency, and up-to-date migration patterns. Advanced professional certifications (Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect / AWS Solutions Architect Professional) preferred.
• Frontier AI Ecosystem & Lab Integrations: Deep working familiarity with the frontier ecosystem, including OpenAI, Anthropic, ElevenLabs, and emerging foundation model labs.
• Data Foundations: Has set data strategy and built platforms (lakehouse, streaming, governance) on BigQuery, Databricks or their AWS equivalents, and treats AI-ready data as a precondition, not an afterthought.
• Agentic AI in Production: Has shipped multi-agent systems with tool-calling, evals, guardrails and cost and latency trade-offs, beyond demos and chatbots. Tooling includes Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform (formerly Vertex AI), Agent Development Kit (ADK), Amazon Bedrock, LangGraph, MCP and A2A protocols, RAG and vector databases, and frontier models from Anthropic and OpenAI.
• Reliability, Security & Adoption Discipline: Has put CI/CD, test automation, SRE, observability and zero-trust security into practice at scale, and has shaped rollouts of AI into everyday work (Google Workspace, Gemini Enterprise) with working fluency, not depth. Experience & Relevance
• 15+ years in engineering, architecture or technology leadership; B.
E./B.
Tech/M.
S. in CS or equivalent.
• Has run technology as a CTO, VP Engineering, founder or equivalent, including at least one stint where you built, pivoted and scaled under real constraints.
• Has led architecture or technical pre-sales across more than one domain (for example platform plus AI, or security plus data), not a single lane.
• Has stayed through delivery on something you sold, so you know what an optimistic SOW costs. Bonus Points (you will thrive if you have)
• The "Builder" Bias: You have a GitHub repo, a side project, or a history of building your own tools to solve repetitive problems.
• Horizontal AI
Experience:
You’ve already tried to automate a real-world process like Claims, Invoicing, or Onboarding using AI.
• Startup Grit: You’ve worked in an environment where you had to wear multiple hats and solve "0→1" problems.
• Public Technical Presence: You’ve written blogs, spoken at meetups, or contributed to documentation in the Cloud/AI space. Join the ‘real solvers’ Ready to futurify?
