About the role
Biba Electronics is looking for a senior engineer to lead FPGA development, the embedded Linux platform, processor-board software and system-level integration for a high-performance digital oscilloscope. The role combines strong FPGA design, embedded Linux and driver development, DSP fundamentals and system integration. You will work closely with the hardware, application software, mechanical and testing teams to deliver a secure, high-performance instrument.
Key responsibilities
System architecture and ownership

• Translate oscilloscope performance requirements into FPGA, driver and system software requirements.
• Define data paths and protocols between the FPGA, processor and application layers.
• Establish acquisition, triggering, buffering, processing and data-transfer architectures.
• Identify and resolve bottlenecks in throughput, latency, memory bandwidth, synchronization and CPU load. FPGA development
• Develop RTL in Verilog/SystemVerilog (VHDL acceptable).
• Build high-speed ADC capture interfaces (LVDS or JESD204B/C).
• Implement acquisition control, trigger detection (edge, pulse-width and others), pre/post-trigger buffering and continuous acquisition.
• Design acquisition memory controllers, DMA paths, FIFOs and DDR integration.
• Implement channel sync, decimation, digital filtering and hardware-assisted measurements.
• Build FPGA-to-processor interfaces using AXI, PCIe, Ethernet, SPI or parallel buses.

• Bring up embedded Linux: bootloader, kernel, device tree, root filesystem and startup.
• Develop kernel drivers for FPGA interfaces, acquisition hardware and board peripherals.
• Build userspace services for instrument control, acquisition management and monitoring.
• Optimize memory, interrupts, DMA and system responsiveness.
• Integrate Ethernet, USB, storage, display and serial interfaces.
• Implement logging, diagnostics, watchdogs, error recovery, secure boot and software updates.
• Maintain reproducible builds with Yocto,
Buildroot or the vendor SDK. High-speed data acquisition
• Own the full data path from ADC sampling through FPGA capture to processor-side processing.
• Design configurable record lengths, multi-channel synchronization and pre/post-trigger capture.
• Optimize sustained and burst throughput while minimizing data copies.
• Handle start/stop, trigger events, buffer overflows and data integrity. DSP and measurements
• Implement decimation, filtering, interpolation, averaging, peak detection and FFT processing.
• Support measurements such as frequency, period, amplitude, RMS, rise/fall time, duty cycle and pulse width.
• Partition algorithms across FPGA and processor, and validate accuracy, latency and consistency. System integration
• Integrate display, touch, storage, USB and Ethernet peripherals.
• Develop APIs and IPC between system services and the oscilloscope application.
• Implement configuration, acquisition control, calibration-data access and status reporting.
• Ensure reliable operation under continuous acquisition and long-duration testing. Debugging and validation
• Debug FPGA, Linux, driver and hardware-interface issues at system level using JTAG, ILAs, Linux tracing tools and lab instruments.
• Run FPGA simulation, regression and hardware-in-the-loop tests.
• Measure throughput, trigger latency, waveform update rate, memory use and CPU load.
• Diagnose dropped samples, corrupted records, DMA failures and timing violations.
• Support bring-up, prototype validation, reliability testing and release qualification, with full documentation and source control. Required skills
• FPGA: RTL design, simulation, synthesis and timing closure
• High-speed interfaces: ADC capture, LVDS, JESD204B/C
