We are looking for an accomplished Surface Engineering & Material Premiumization specialist to lead material and process innovations that elevate the visual appeal, tactile experience, durability, functionality, and perceived premium value of Havells products.

The role will combine expertise in materials science, polymers, coatings, decorative surface technologies, manufacturing processes, and industrial design integration to develop distinctive and scalable surface solutions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Surface Premiumization Strategy

- Develop and drive a 3–5 year technology roadmap for premium surface materials, finishes, coatings, and decorative technologies.
- Identify and evaluate next-generation materials, surface treatments and smart/functional surfaces that enhance appearance, touch, durability, and product differentiation.
- Build technology platforms that can be deployed across multiple Havells product families.

2. Advanced Surface Material & Technology Development

Lead development and industrialization of advanced surface technologies, including:

- Paint-less metallic and premium polymer finishes
- Soft-touch surfaces
- Self-healing materials/coatings
- Anti-fingerprint and anti-dust surfaces
- Scratch-, abrasion- and wear-resistant coatings
- Functional ceramic and advanced coating technologies
- Thermochromic and electrochromic surfaces
- Smart and functional materials, including relevant piezoelectric and energy-storage material concepts

Lead development and application of decorative manufacturing technologies such as:
- IML – In-Mould Labelling
- IMD – In-Mould Decoration
- OMD – Out-Mould Decoration
- Laser texturing
- Metallization
- PVD coatings
- UV-curable coatings
- Advanced textures and decorative finishes

Drive technology selection considering premium appearance, manufacturability, productivity, durability, cost, sustainability and scalability.

- CMF, Industrial Design & Aesthetics





- Partner with Industrial Design teams to integrate materials engineering with form, colour, texture, gloss, feel and surface aesthetics.
- Build a consistent CMF language across product categories.
- Translate global design, lifestyle, consumer and material trends into technically feasible product solutions.
- Develop materials and finishes that provide recognizable brand differentiation and family identity across product portfolios.
- Support early-stage concept development through material samples, finish libraries, demonstrators and prototypes.

- Smart & Functional Surfaces

- Explore next-generation materials that combine aesthetic premiumization with functional performance.
- Develop concepts around responsive, adaptive and multifunctional surface technologies.
- Evaluate emerging technologies for their relevance to electrical, appliance and consumer product applications.
- Establish proof-of-concepts and subsequently transition promising technologies toward product development and commercialization.

5. Technology Leadership & Capability Building

- Establish technical expertise and best practices in surface engineering and material premiumization within CRI.
- Mentor technical teams and build organizational capability in advanced surface materials, coatings and CMF technologies.
- Develop technology databases, material libraries, surface samples, specifications and design guidelines.
- Identify relevant patents, technology trends and opportunities for differentiated intellectual property.

Educational Qualification & Experience

- Master’s degree in Materials Science / Polymer Science / Mechanical Engineering / Industrial Design
- (Combination of materials and design background will be highly preferred)
- 10–15 years of relevant experience in:
- Premium consumer products, electricals, appliances, automotive interiors, or similar industries
- Materials development, surface engineering, CMF, or industrial design integration
