Title
- Assistant Finance Manager
What you'll own
Timesheets and billing
- Own the timesheet-to-invoice cycle: timesheet submission and approval, cut-off, billing runs, rate and margin checks, and credit notes.
- Chase late and unapproved timesheets with delivery teams and clients, so revenue is billed in the month it is earned.
- Reconcile timesheets to billing, payroll and contractor payments, and investigate any gaps between hours worked, hours billed and amounts paid.
- Keep unbilled revenue and accruals accurate at month-end, and clear aged unbilled items.
Accounting and close
- Assist in preparation and smooth running of the India month-end close, general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Make sure billing, revenue accruals, unbilled revenue and credit notes are right, and that receivables are chased.
- Reconcile intercompany balances with the group entities every month and clear anything that has been open for too long.
Tax and statutory compliance
- GST (GSTR-1, 3B, 2B reconciliation, annual return) and TDS/TCS returns, challans and certificates.
- Assist in ensuring payroll compliances (PF, ESI, qualified tax) and advance tax on schedule working closely with relevant stake holders.
- Audit process: statutory, tax and internal audit, including Form 3CEB and the inputs for transfer pricing documentation prepared with our advisors.
- Monitor ROC filings with our company secretary and keep a single compliance calendar with owners and dates.
- Handle FEMA and RBI reporting on cross-border payments and receipts.
Cash, payments and working capital
- Maintain the India cash forecast on a real time basis and prepare the weekly payment approval cycle.
- Track receivables, collections and payables, and flag cash pressure early with a plan, not just a number.
- Help maintain bank relationships, facilities and day-to-day banking operations.
Reporting and business partnering
- Prepare reports to showcase KPIs that run our business each month: revenue, net fee income (NFI) and margin, billable headcount and utilisation, bill rates versus pay rates, DSO and collections, client concentration, and churn and client retention.
- Maintain the timesheet and billing dashboards, and make sure the data behind them is accurate and reconciles to the ledger.
- Show where margin is made or lost, by client, business line and account owner, and tell the business what to do about it.
- Produce the monthly India MIS, management accounts and the inputs to the group board pack, with commentary on what moved and why.
- Assist in the India budget and forecast, and report actuals against it by business line and client.
- Work with sales, delivery and other departments on margins, pricing, headcount cost and client level profitability.
What we're looking for
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting or Finance.
Chartered
Accountant (CA), CPA, ACCA is an added advantage.
- 5 to 8 years of experience in accounting, tax and finance, including at least 3 years managing a team.
- Strong command of GST, TDS, Indian GAAP / Ind AS and the Companies Act.
- Experience with audit, Form 3CEB, FEMA, ROC and MCA reporting.
- Experience managing timesheet-based billing and revenue, ideally in staffing or professional services.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to build KPI dashboards and explain margin and utilisation to non-finance leaders.
- Advanced Excel and an ERP (Zoho, SAP or QuickBooks). Comfort with BI or dashboard tools.
- Clear communication with auditors, advisors and senior leadership.
Nice to have
- Experience in supervising a small number of junior staff completing payroll and billing. This will be highly valued.
- Experience in staffing, recruitment or professional services.
- Working knowledge of IFRS and group reporting.
- Familiarity with staffing metrics such as NFI, utilisation and placement margins.
- Experience working with a parent or group finance team outside India.
