Key responsibilities - Design plastic furniture products from concept to final production-ready 3D models and 2D drawings. - Develop designs optimized for injection moulding, blow moulding, or rotomoulding — considering draft angles, wall thickness, ribs, gates, and parting lines. - Create detailed CAD models using SolidWorks, Rhino, or AutoCAD with full DFM (Design for Manufacturability) compliance. - Work closely with tooling and mould engineers to validate designs for mouldability and propose modifications as needed. - Prepare technical drawing packages including BOM, tolerances, material callouts, surface finish specs, and assembly instructions. - Select appropriate plastic materials — PP, HDPE, ABS, LDPE, PC — based on product requirements such as load, UV exposure, and finish. - Coordinate with quality teams to review first-article samples and resolve dimensional or aesthetic non-conformities.
- Monitor plastic furniture market trends, competitor products, ergonomic standards, and consumer preferences. - Support costing exercises by providing accurate geometry for weight estimation and material consumption calculations. - Maintain organized design archives including version-controlled CAD files and engineering change records. Required qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Product Design, Industrial Design, Plastic Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering. - 3-6 years of design experience specifically in plastic products or plastic furniture manufacturing. - Proficient in CAD tools — SolidWorks preferred; Rhino 3D or AutoCAD also acceptable.
