1. About Zenox Gas Systems
Zenox Gas Systems Private Limited designs and manufactures engineered gas systems and skid-mounted packages for industrial customers. Every order depends on accurate, buildable engineering: the design function converts customer requirements into approved drawings, bills of materials and fabrication-ready documentation that the shop floor can build to the first time.
2. Role Summary The Design Head owns the complete design and drafting function at Zenox. The role combines technical leadership and people leadership: setting design standards, reviewing and approving every drawing set that leaves the department, managing the Autodesk-based design workflow, and building a team that delivers on time and right the first time.
The Design
Head is the technical authority between the customer, sales, procurement, production and quality, and is accountable for design accuracy, project turnaround and the quality of released documentation.
3. Key Responsibilities
A. Design Leadership & Technical Ownership
- Lead conceptual, basic and detailed design of gas systems, skid packages, manifolds, piping layouts and associated mechanical assemblies from enquiry to released-for-manufacture drawings.
- Review and approve general arrangement (GA), fabrication, piping and assembly drawings, bills of materials and cut lists before release to production and customers.
- Apply applicable codes, standards and customer specifications in every design, and ensure design calculations are completed, checked and recorded.
- Provide technical inputs for enquiries and tenders: scope understanding, feasibility, preliminary layouts, material take-offs and design-hour estimates.
- Resolve design queries from production, quality and site teams quickly, and drive design changes through a controlled process.
B. Autodesk Workflow & Data Management
- Own the Autodesk toolchain at Zenox: Inventor for 3D modelling and assemblies, AutoCAD for 2D/3D drafting, and Vault for data management and release control.
- Define and enforce Vault practices: folder and naming conventions, check-in/check-out discipline, revision and lifecycle states, and approval workflows.
- Maintain the standard parts library, templates, title blocks,
drawing standards and BOM formats so every project follows the same structure.
- Manage Inventor ↔ Vault ↔ AutoCAD data flow so that models, drawings and BOMs stay consistent and traceable, with no loose or duplicate files.
- Ensure software licences, versions and workstation requirements are planned and supported with IT.
C. Team Leadership & Delivery Management
- Lead, mentor and develop a team of 3 – 6 designers and draftsmen: allocate work, set priorities, review output and build capability.
- Plan design capacity against the project pipeline; track milestones, drawing release dates and design-hour utilisation; and escalate risks early.
- Set clear quality expectations, run structured design reviews and use checklists and lessons learned to reduce rework.
- Run regular performance conversations, identify skill gaps (Inventor, piping, GD&T;) and arrange training and cross-skilling.
- Support hiring of design team members, including defining profiles, interviewing and onboarding.
D. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with Sales / Projects on customer requirements, clarifications, technical submittals and approval cycles.
- Coordinate with Procurement on material specifications, vendor drawings and long-lead items; and with Production on manufacturability, welding and assembly sequence.
- Coordinate with Quality on inspection requirements, documentation and as-built records, including final data books where required.
- Align with the management team on design priorities, resource needs and process improvements.
E. Standards, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Establish and maintain design standards, drawing practices (including GD&T; application), review checklists and release procedures.
- Control revisions and document changes, and ensure drawings are archived and traceable for audits and customer reviews.
- Identify opportunities to standardise,
modularise and reuse designs to shorten lead times and reduce cost.
- Promote safe, compliant design practice and ensure designs consider fabrication, testing, installation and maintenance.
4. Must-Have Requirements
- Autodesk proficiency: Strong working knowledge of the Autodesk package: Inventor ↔ Vault ↔ AutoCAD (2D / 3D), including integrated use of all three.
- Experience: 5+ years of relevant, hands-on experience in Autodesk tools within mechanical design and drafting.
- Design & drafting: Strong design and drafting skills, including creation and checking of GA, fabrication and detail drawings, assemblies and BOMs.
- Leadership: Proven capacity to lead, guide and review the work of a design and drafting team and to deliver to schedule.
- Education: B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
5. Good-to-Have
- Industrial experience in manufacturing or the oil and gas sector.
- Working knowledge of piping design, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, GD&T; and related codes and standards.
- Experience with customer and third-party inspection (TPI) documentation and approval cycles.
- Exposure to design-for-manufacture, welding and fabrication practices, and to ERP / PLM-linked BOM processes.
6. Behavioural Competencies
- Accountability and ownership: Takes full responsibility for design outcomes, including errors, delays and rework, and fixes the cause rather than assigning blame.
- Right attitude: Positive, solution-oriented and qualified. Stays constructive under pressure, tight deadlines and last-minute customer changes.
- Willingness to learn: Keeps up with new tools, codes, standards and design practices. Accepts feedback openly and picks up unfamiliar areas such as piping, pressure vessels or GD&T; quickly.
- Technical judgement and a strong eye for detail, with ownership of design accuracy.
- Clear communicator who can explain technical decisions to customers, shop-floor teams and management.
- Structured planner who prioritises under deadlines and manages multiple projects at once.
- Mentoring mindset: grows people, gives direct feedback and builds team discipline.
- Practical and collaborative, willing to stay hands-on while leading the function.
