We are looking for a rigorous and detail-oriented Fabrication QC Engineer with specialized expertise in IBR standards, pressure vessels, and heat exchanger fabrication. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that all static equipment—including shells, tube sheets, channels, and internal components—is fabricated in strict compliance with ASME Section VIII, IBR, and client technical specifications. You will oversee quality inspections from raw material receipt to final hydrostatic testing, serving as the primary liaison with Third-Party Inspection Agencies (TPIA) and Boiler Inspectors.
Key Responsibilities1. Code Compliance & Inspection (IBR & ASME)
- Regulatory Inspections: Coordinate directly with IBR / Boiler Inspectors and Third-Party Inspection Agencies (TPIA) for mandatory stage-wise clearances.
- Code Implementation: Ensure all design, fabrication, and testing procedures strictly adhere to ASME Sec VIII (Div 1 & 2), IBR, TEMA (for heat exchangers), and ASTM materials standards.
- Documentation Management: Prepare, review, and compile manufacturing data reports, Form III-A/III-C (for IBR), and complete Quality Assurance Plans (QAP) / Quality Control Plans (QCP).
2. Pressure Vessel & Heat Exchanger Fabrication QC
- Tubesheet Inspection: Supervise critical tubesheet operations, including drilling layout, hole sizing/finish, tube-to-tubesheet joint preparation, and tube expansion (rolling/hydraulic) or seal welding.
- Fit-up & Dimensional Checks: Verify shell-to-head fit-ups, nozzle orientations, projection alignments, and internal baffle clearances against approved General Arrangement (GA) and fabrication drawings.
- Material Verification: Perform positive material identification (PMI), review Mill Test Certificates (MTC), and ensure proper material traceability and heat-number transfer throughout production.
3.
Welding, NDT & Testing Supervision
- Welding Quality Assurance: Verify Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ) align with project needs.
- Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Interpret and review NDT results including Radiography Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), and Dye Penetrant Testing (PT).
- Pressure Testing: Plan, witness, and document final Hydrostatic and Pneumatic pressure tests safely and accurately according to code holds.
Required Skills & Qualifications Educational & Experience Requirements
- Degree: B.E. / B.Tech or Diploma in Mechanical / Metallurgy / Production Engineering.
- Experience: 3 to 7 years of hands-on Quality Control experience in a heavy fabrication shop manufacturing pressure vessels, boilers, or shell-and-tube heat exchangers.
Technical Certifications & Competencies
- Deep working knowledge of IBR rules, ASME Codes (Sec II, V, VIII, IX), and TEMA standards.
- ASNT Level II certification in Radiography (RT), Ultrasonic (UT), Magnetic Particle (MT), and Liquid Penetrant (PT) testing.
- AWS-QC1 / CSWIP 3.1 Certified Welding Inspector qualification is highly preferred.
- Hands-on familiarity with tubesheet machining tolerances and tube-to-tube sheet expansion/welding techniques.
Soft Skills
- Exceptional eye for detail with a zero-compromise attitude toward quality and safety standards.
- Decisive communication skills to confidently manage inspections alongside external auditors, surveyors, and clients.
