Key duties and responsibilities

1.⁠ ⁠Billing and payment handling

Prepare accurate bills for food, beverages, and alcoholic drinks.

Enter orders and process bills through the POS (Point of Sale) system.

Accept cash, credit/debit cards, UPI payments, and other approved payment methods.

Issue receipts and verify that payments are completed successfully.

Apply authorised discounts, promotional offers, and service charges correctly.

Process cancellations, voids, and refunds only with proper approval.

2.⁠ ⁠Cash management

Verify the opening cash float before starting the shift.

Maintain sufficient change for daily transactions.

Count cash received and provide the correct change to customers.

Keep cash secure and prevent shortages, overages, and unauthorised withdrawals.

Reconcile cash, card payments, and UPI transactions at the end of each shift.

Submit the cash collection and payment reports to the accounts department or duty manager.

3.⁠ ⁠Restaurant and bar operations

Coordinate with restaurant service staff, bartenders, and kitchen staff regarding orders and billing.

Ensure all food and beverage items served are properly entered into the POS.

Verify that bar bills include the correct drink names, quantities, and prices.

Ensure complimentary drinks, staff discounts, and promotional offers are properly authorised.

Check that no food or beverage items leave the outlet without the required billing or approved documentation.

4.⁠ ⁠POS system and record keeping

Maintain accurate sales entries in the billing system.

Generate daily sales reports and transaction summaries.

Record cash, card, UPI, room-charge, and other approved transactions separately.

Maintain records of cancelled bills, refunds, discounts, and complimentary items.

Report POS errors, duplicate transactions,



and payment discrepancies promptly.

Coordinate with the accounts department for daily closing and reconciliation.

5.⁠ ⁠Customer service

Greet customers politely and handle billing enquiries professionally.

Explain bill details and resolve basic payment-related concerns.

Handle payment disputes calmly and refer unresolved issues to the supervisor.

Maintain confidentiality of customer payment information.

Ensure quick and accurate billing, particularly during busy hours.

6.⁠ ⁠Bar compliance and stock control

Follow the establishment's applicable liquor licensing rules and internal procedures.

Ensure bar sales are billed at approved prices.

Check that authorised complimentary drinks and wastage are recorded correctly.

Inform the bar manager about unusual transactions or discrepancies between recorded sales and stock movement.

Never alter drink prices, provide unauthorised discounts, or permit unrecorded sales.

7.⁠ ⁠Security and fraud prevention

Verify unusual transactions and obtain management approval when required.

Never share POS passwords or cashier credentials.

Do not use the cash drawer for personal purposes or unauthorised expenses.

Report counterfeit currency, suspicious payments, and suspected theft to management.

Keep bills, payment slips, and cash records organised and secure.

8.⁠ ⁠Shift closing responsibilities

Close all pending bills and verify outstanding balances.

Print the daily sales and cashier closing reports.

Count physical cash and compare it with the POS closing balance.

Reconcile card settlements, UPI receipts, refunds, and other payment records.

Report any cash shortage or excess immediately.

Hand over cash, reports, and relevant documents to the authorised manager or accounts department.
