Position: Pod Lead – Math (Terminal Bench Science)

Engagement Type: Short-Term Contract (3 Weeks)
Working Hours: 8 hours per day, with 4 hours of overlap with the US PST time zone
Login: between 4 PM and 8 PM (for a straight 8 hours)
Working Days: 5 days per week, including weekends as required, with 2 weekdays off

Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Mathematics expert to lead a pod of 5–10 trainers responsible for developing and reviewing terminal-based scientific and technical tasks for Terminal Bench Science. The role involves ensuring mathematical accuracy, computational reliability, reproducibility, and overall task quality while mentoring trainers and managing delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead, mentor, and guide a team of 5–10 mathematics trainers.
- Review mathematical tasks, problem statements, datasets, reference solutions, and automated tests.
- Validate mathematical derivations, algorithms, numerical results, convergence, stability, and error handling.
- Ensure tasks require meaningful multi-step mathematical reasoning and computational problem-solving.
- Review graders, test reliability, and reproducibility of computational tasks.
- Identify hard-coded solutions, test-data leakage, and other potential workarounds.
- Provide constructive feedback, track revisions, and maintain quality and delivery standards.
- Collaborate with the Mathematics Team Lead and other technical stakeholders to improve benchmark quality.





Required Skills and Qualifications:

- PhD, postdoctoral experience, or equivalent advanced technical experience in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Strong programming skills in Python, Julia, C/C++, MATLAB/Octave, or computer algebra systems.
- Strong Linux and command-line proficiency.
- Hands-on experience with numerical methods, scientific computing, symbolic computation, optimization, computational statistics, or mathematical modeling.
- Ability to evaluate mathematical proofs, algorithms, derivations, and computational results rigorously.
- Experience reviewing research outputs, code, or scientific workflows.
- Experience mentoring or leading small technical or research teams.
- Solid written communication and problem-solving skills.

Good to Have:

- Experience with NumPy, SciPy, SymPy, SageMath, Mathematica, or similar tools.
- Familiarity with optimization frameworks, ODE/PDE solvers, or formal verification tools.
- Experience with Docker, Git, CI/CD, and automated testing.
- Prior experience in benchmark design, AI model evaluation, or AI training programs.
- Research publications or open-source contributions in computational mathematics.
