Job Description: Android Developer

Company: PurpleBits / PurpleDocs
Location: Vadodara, Gujarat
Experience: 3–6 years (flexible for the right candidate)

About the Role

We are looking for an Android Developer who loves building, not just coding.

At PurpleDocs, we build healthcare technology that handles highly sensitive patient information. Our applications must be secure, reliable, responsive, and intuitive. Poorly optimized code or a small bug can affect hospital workflows and critical patient records.

We are not looking for someone who simply picks up an existing module, copies a code pattern, and makes it work. We want a creator—someone who understands problems, designs solutions, builds features, investigates issues, and continuously improves the product.

Key Responsibilities

- Feature Development: Design and build Android features from requirements, with attention to usability, maintainability, and reliability.
- Problem Solving: Investigate complex bugs, identify root causes, and implement permanent fixes.
- Performance Optimization: Optimize execution, memory usage, rendering, network calls, and application responsiveness.
- Data Security: Implement secure authentication, session handling, local data storage, and API communication.
- Reliability: Handle network failures, concurrent operations, application lifecycle changes, and interrupted workflows without data loss or corruption.
- Code Quality: Write clean, modular, testable code; review existing implementations and reduce technical debt.
- Ownership: Take responsibility for features from design and development through testing, deployment, and production support.
- Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, backend developers, and implementation teams to solve real hospital workflow challenges.

Android Technology Stack

Candidates should have practical experience with the following technologies, or a strong foundation to learn the ones they have not yet used.

- Languages: Kotlin and Java
- Android SDK: Android application components, lifecycle management, permissions, background execution, and device compatibility
- UI Development: Jetpack Compose and/or XML layouts, Material Design, custom views, and responsive interfaces
- Architecture: MVVM, Clean Architecture principles, modularization, and separation of concerns
- Asynchronous Programming: Kotlin Coroutines, Flow, and appropriate concurrency mechanisms
- Networking: Retrofit, OkHttp, REST APIs, JSON serialization, and robust error handling
- Local Storage: Room, SQLite, DataStore, and appropriate strategies for sensitive local data
- Dependency Injection: Hilt or Dagger
- Background Processing: WorkManager and Android services where appropriate
- Testing: JUnit, Mockito or MockK, Espresso, and UI/integration testing
- Build and Version Control: Gradle, Android Studio, Git, and CI/CD fundamentals
- Debugging and Optimization: Android Profiler, Logcat, memory leak analysis, crash diagnostics, and performance profiling
- Security: Secure storage, encryption fundamentals, TLS/HTTPS, certificate validation, secure API integration, and protection against accidental data exposure

Experience with offline-first applications, synchronization, conflict resolution, and applications handling sensitive data will be an advantage.

What We Are Looking For

- Strong hands-on experience in native Android development.
- A sound understanding of Android internals, lifecycle management, threading, memory management, and performance.

- The ability to independently investigate unfamiliar codebases and understand existing implementations before modifying them.
- Experience handling API failures, unreliable connectivity, concurrent operations, and edge cases.
- A security-conscious approach to application development.
- Positive problem-solving skills and the ability to explain technical decisions.
- A willingness to challenge inefficient approaches and continuously improve code quality.

The Mindset Matters Most

We value developers who:

- Ask why before deciding how.
- Can convert an ambiguous requirement into a thoughtful technical solution.
- Anticipate failure scenarios instead of coding only for the happy path.
- Understand the code they write rather than blindly reusing existing implementations.
- Take ownership of production issues and follow them through to resolution.
- Care about building reliable products, not merely completing assigned tasks.

You do not need to know every technology listed. We value engineering fundamentals, problem-solving ability, and a willingness to learn more than familiarity with a long list of libraries.

Who May Not Be a Good Fit

This role may not suit someone who relies entirely on tutorials, copies modules without understanding them, focuses only on completing assigned tasks, or treats debugging and optimization as someone else's responsibility.

Why Join Us?

At PurpleDocs, you will build healthcare technology used in real clinical environments. Your work will help digitize hospital workflows and protect critical patient information. You will have the opportunity to influence product design, make technical decisions, and solve engineering challenges where reliability and security genuinely matter.

We are looking for engineers who want to create great products—not just deliver code.

Pay: ₹30,000.00 per month

Work Location: In person
