About the role
We are delivering an AI-driven purchase requisition (PR) approval solution on SAP S/4HANA. AI agents read PR data from SAP and give approvers a recommendation in Microsoft Teams. We need a hands-on SAP MM consultant who knows the PR and release process in depth and can debug SAP to confirm exactly how the system behaves.

Key responsibilities
• Run workshops with procurement and IT teams to capture PR approval requirements, release strategy, Delegation of Authority (DoA) and approver routing.
• Analyse the classic release strategy configuration: release groups, codes, strategies, classification and header-level release.
• Debug standard transactions and BAPIs (ME51N, ME52N, ME54N, ME55, BAPI_REQUISITION_*) to confirm how release status, approver determination and reset logic work.
• Trace data issues by debugging BAPIs, user exits, BAdIs and OData services, without depending on a developer.
• Map the business rules for recommendations:
• free and reserved stock;
• stock in other plants or company codes;
• slow-moving and non-moving stock;
• duplicate open PRs, POs and RFQs;
• contracts and scheduling agreements.
• Write functional specifications for custom read objects (CDS / OData) and support ABAP developers through build and testing.
• Validate data returned by standard S/4HANA APIs (PR, PO, contract, stock, material document, info record) against SAP tables.




• Prepare test scenarios and test data per release code, and support SIT, UAT and production verification.
• Deliver user training and a user guide for requesters, buyers, approvers and Finance.
• Work closely with the integration, AI and Microsoft Teams teams. Essential skills
• 7+ years of SAP MM experience, including at least 2 S/4HANA implementations or support projects.
• Strong configuration knowledge of PR / PO release strategies (classic), purchasing documents, contracts, scheduling agreements, RFQs and inventory management.
• Robust ABAP debugging

skills:
breakpoints, watchpoints, call stack analysis, and tracing through BAPIs, user exits, BAdIs and enhancement points.
• Working knowledge of key MM tables (EBAN, EKKO / EKPO, T16FS / T16FW, MARD, MSEG / MATDOC, EINA / EINE).
• Experience writing functional specs for reports, interfaces or OData services.
• Confident in client-facing workshops; able to turn business requirements into clear rules and test cases. Desirable
• Large-enterprise procurement experience.
• Exposure to SAP Gateway / OData, CDS views or BAPI web services (SOAMANAGER).
• Use of SAP analysis tools such as ST05 (SQL trace) and SAT (runtime analysis).
• Interest in AI or automation in procurement.
• SAP S/4HANA Sourcing and Procurement certification. Personal attributes Analytical, detail-focused, comfortable with short timelines, and clear in written and verbal English.
