Role Overview

The Sourcing and Indigenisation Engineer will be responsible for engineering-led sourcing, supply-chain risk management, import/export licensing, and indigenisation across aerpace's drone, heavy-payload drone, military, EV, and other mobility programmes.

The role focuses on reducing China-origin supply-chain dependencies, identifying and qualifying alternative components, developing Indian electronics suppliers, and ensuring compliance with applicable defence programme and export-control requirements.

This is an engineering-focused sourcing role. Commercial negotiations, contracts, and purchase orders are handled by the procurement team.

Key Responsibilities

1. Supply Chain Risk Management

- Map country of origin across Electrical & Electronics components and maintain China-exposure registers for each platform.
- Identify single-source dependencies and supply-chain chokepoints.
- Develop a risk-ranked component substitution roadmap.

2. Alternative Sourcing and Indigenisation

- Identify and qualify non-China alternatives and conduct form-fit-function assessments.
- Prepare technical cross-reference documentation for engineering approval.
- Identify, develop, and audit Indian electronics suppliers.
- Coordinate first-article and process qualification.
- Track indigenous content against applicable defence programme obligations.

3. Import/Export Licensing and Compliance

- Manage DGFT and SCOMET classification and licensing requirements.
- Coordinate end-use certificates, licence applications, and renewals.
- Assess ITAR and EAR exposure for US-origin components.
- Manage applicable foreign supplier franchise and licensing agreements.

4. Counterfeit Prevention and Traceability

- Establish authorised and franchised sourcing practices and exclude grey-market sources.
- Define incoming component verification requirements.
- Maintain component traceability and certificate-of-conformity documentation.

5. Technical Sourcing and Supplier Qualification

- Assess supplier technical capabilities and component suitability.
- Prepare technical specifications for supplier enquiries and evaluate technical quotations.
- Coordinate with engineering teams on component qualification and technical acceptance.

- Hand over technically evaluated sourcing options to procurement for commercial closure.

6. Make-versus-Buy Assessment

- Evaluate sourcing feasibility when no suitable external alternative exists.
- Assess cost, lead time, technical capability, and manufacturing feasibility.
- Present evidence-based recommendations to the Head of E/E.

7. Engineering Responsibilities

- Maintain requirements, traceability, verification records, configuration documentation, and change control for the assigned scope.
- Participate in cross-domain design reviews.
- Establish export-control classification guidance for departmental screening.
- Identify supply-chain integrity risks and provide inputs to platform hazard assessments and FMECA arising from component substitution.

Required Qualifications and Experience

- 12+ years of experience in defence or aerospace electronics sourcing.
- Hands-on experience with DGFT and SCOMET classification and licensing requirements.
- Proven experience in Indian electronics supplier development, capability assessments, and supplier audits.
- Technical understanding of electronic components, datasheets, and component cross-referencing.
- Experience in counterfeit prevention, authorised distribution, and component traceability.

Preferred Experience

- ITAR and EAR exposure management for US-origin components.
- Experience with indigenous content obligations on defence programmes.
- Experience reducing country-specific supply dependencies at programme level.
- Established relationships with franchised distributors and manufacturer representatives in the Indian market.
