About the RoleWe are looking for a highly skilled, hands-on Unreal Engine Technical Artist with deep practical knowledge of Unreal Engine 5, cinematic lighting, rendering, camera setup, and Motion Capture (MoCap) workflows.
The candidate must be capable of independently handling technical and creative production tasks from scene setup to final output, rather than just supervising other artists. This role requires someone who can execute the work personally, troubleshoot complex technical challenges, optimise production workflows, and coordinate with different departments to ensure high-quality results.
Strong practical experience in planning and handling MoCap shoots, processing captured data, and integrating animations into Unreal Engine is essential.
Key Roles & Responsibilities1.

Production & Scene Management
- Independently manage and execute production tasks within Unreal Engine 5.
- Set up scenes, import and integrate assets, configure materials, and prepare sequences for production.
- Troubleshoot technical issues related to assets, shaders, materials, animation, scene performance, and rendering.
- Maintain organised project structures, asset management, naming conventions, and production-ready scenes.
- Identify workflow bottlenecks and implement practical solutions to improve efficiency.
2. Lighting & Look Development
- Independently create cinematic lighting setups for characters, environments, and complete sequences.
- Work extensively with Lumen, shadows, reflections, exposure, post-processing, and other Unreal Engine lighting features.
- Establish appropriate lighting moods, colour balance, atmosphere, and visual consistency.
- Create and refine materials and shaders wherever required.
- Identify and resolve lighting artefacts, flickering, shadow issues, and visual inconsistencies.
- Optimise lighting setups without compromising the final visual quality.
3.
Camera
Setup & Cinematic Sequencing
- Set up and operate cinematic cameras within Unreal Engine.
- Handle framing, composition, focal length, camera angles, depth of field, and camera movement.
- Create camera animations and manage shot sequencing using Unreal Engine Sequencer.
- Translate storyboards and creative requirements into effective cinematic shots.
- Maintain camera continuity and ensure that character blocking, camera movement, and composition support the storytelling.
4. Rendering & Optimisation
- Independently manage final rendering using Unreal Engine's Movie Render Queue and related workflows.
- Configure render settings, resolution, anti-aliasing, output formats, and other rendering parameters.
- Troubleshoot render failures, flickering, artefacts, exposure inconsistencies, and performance issues.
- Optimise scenes, materials, lighting, and assets for efficient rendering.
- Ensure consistent output quality and deliver production-ready renders within deadlines.
- Work with the compositing and post-production teams to ensure smooth delivery of final shots.
5.
Motion Capture
Shoot & Pipeline Management
- Understand and actively participate in planning and executing Motion Capture shoots.
- Handle shoot preparation, calibration, capture requirements, reference recording, and coordination with performers and technical teams.
- Work with MoCap operators and capture systems to ensure accurate, usable performance data.
- Identify and troubleshoot capture issues, tracking errors, missing data, and inconsistent takes.
- Process, clean, refine, and prepare captured animation data for production.
- Handle skeleton mapping, animation retargeting, root motion, and character integration within Unreal Engine.
- Work with IK Rig, IK Retargeter, Control Rig, and Animation Blueprints as required.
- Ensure captured performances translate accurately into smooth, natural character animation.
6.
Technical
Animation & Character Integration
- Integrate characters, rigs, and animation assets into Unreal Engine.
- Troubleshoot retargeting issues, foot sliding, jitter, incorrect bone mapping, and unnatural movement.
- Work with animation systems, locomotion workflows, and root motion.
- Coordinate with rigging and animation artists to resolve technical issues while personally handling implementation wherever required.
- Ensure animation assets function correctly within cinematic sequences and real-time production environments.
7.
Production
Coordination & Problem-Solving
- Work directly with lighting, animation, modeling, rigging, and compositing teams.
- Independently complete assigned production tasks while supporting other artists with technical challenges.
- Review output quality, identify errors, and implement corrections.
- Manage multiple shots and production tasks while maintaining quality and deadlines.
- Take ownership of assigned work from initial setup through final delivery.

- Minimum 5+ years of relevant professional experience in Unreal Engine and 3D production workflows.
- Deep, hands-on expertise in Unreal Engine 5.
- Strong practical skills in cinematic lighting, camera setup, Sequencer, and final rendering.
- Practical experience with Motion Capture shoots, MoCap data processing, retargeting, and character integration.
- Working knowledge of Movie Render Queue, Lumen, Control Rig, IK Rig, IK Retargeter, and Animation Blueprints.
- Strong understanding of materials, shaders, scene optimisation, and real-time rendering.
- Ability to independently execute tasks and resolve complex technical issues without constant supervision.
- Good understanding of cinematic composition, visual storytelling, and production pipelines.
- Solid problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
