BTL is one of the major manufacturers of medical equipment globally. BTL's major segments include Rehabilitation & Orthopedics Therapy, Cardiovascular Systems and Aesthetics Medicine.
BTL India focusses on the end-to-end research & development of new medical devices for global market, from idea to serial production at our own manufacturing facilities in Europe.
BTL India development center is seeking a highly motivated electronics engineer for the role of System Specialist Hardware with 6 to 10 years of experience to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal technical and leadership role in driving the hardware design, system architecture, team delivery, and development of innovative medical devices.
Roles and Responsibilities
As part of the Recent Product Development (NPD) team, the candidate will lead the hardware engineering initiatives and should be able to perform the following duties, but they are not limited to the following:
1 Requirement & Technical Management
- System Requirements & Interface Detailing: Lead the understanding of system/product requirements and derive comprehensive Hardware Requirement Specifications (HRS) and Hardware Interface Specifications (HIS) for software.
- Requirements Lifecycle Management: Interact with stakeholders to effectively manage technical requirements throughout the product lifecycle, bridging gaps between requirements and design.
2 Hardware System / Subsystem Engineering & Architecture
- Conceptualization & Prototyping: Lead end-to-end conceptual studies, feasibility assessments, and platform-level evaluations by designing, building, and troubleshooting module- and system-level prototypes.
- Architecture, Detailed Design & Simulation: Own & develop the hardware architecture. Drive / oversee schematic capture, circuit simulations, worst-case calculations, component selection, and Bills of Materials (BOM) management.
- System-Level Thinking & Trade-Off Analysis: Evaluate technical options, analyze system dependencies, foresee risks, and take/validate critical technical decisions.
- PCB & System Integration: Review and identify gaps in system/subsystem designs, conduct rigorous PCB layout reviews, and drive physical integration of electronic subsystems, cable harnesses, and connectors into mechanical enclosures.
- Design Excellence (DFx): Enforce DFM, DFA, and DFT (Design for Manufacturing, Assembly,
and Testing) principles throughout the product development lifecycle to ensure high yields and quality.
- Risk Management & Failure Analysis: Own and drive Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA). Proactively foresee, prioritize, and mitigate technical risks, maintaining complete hardware design documentation.
3 Design Qualification, Standards & Issue Resolution
- Hardware Verification & Testing: Author comprehensive hardware test plans, conduct reviews, and oversee hands-on verification at circuit, module, and product levels to validate circuit design integrity and system performance.
- Standards Enforcement & Compliance: Enforce applicable medical standards (IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-1-2) across the design, ensuring product development strictly aligns with regulatory expectations.
- Pre-Compliance & Certification: Plan and execute pre-compliance testing for EMI/EMC and electrical safety standards to ensure readiness for formal medical certification.
- Complex Issue Resolution: Find direction and solutions for complex technical issues, guiding the team to troubleshoot, analyze, and ensure root-cause closure of technical bugs.
4 Program Leadership, People & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Team Delivery & Quality: Drive, manage, and take accountability for the time and quality of hardware deliverables across the team.
- Predictive Planning & Execution: Partner closely with Project Manager and cross-functional teams in project planning phases to estimate efforts, establish predictive timelines, and ensure execution.
- Technical Mentorship & Grooming: Technically help and mentor junior engineers, share domain knowledge, identify individual improvement areas, and groom team members.
- Feedback & Motivation: Provide continuous, constructive feedback to team members, foster motivation, and build an environment of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate seamlessly with firmware/software, mechanical, procurement, quality,
and manufacturing teams to drive cohesive end-to-end product development.
