Role Overview
We are looking for a hands-on Senior Engineer – Production with experience in the automobile or automotive components industry, particularly in rubber moulding and related manufacturing processes.
The ideal candidate should have robust shop-floor exposure, a practical understanding of production processes, and the ability to manage manpower, machines, productivity, quality, and delivery commitments. The candidate must be capable of identifying production bottlenecks, resolving process-related issues, reducing rejection and downtime, and driving continuous improvement.
This is an execution-focused role for someone who can take ownership of daily production performance and deliver measurable improvements in manufacturing efficiency.
Key Responsibilities1. Production Planning & Shop-Floor Execution
- Execute daily and monthly production plans in line with customer requirements and dispatch schedules.
- Monitor production output against targets, identify bottlenecks, and take corrective action to achieve planned productivity.
- Ensure optimum utilization of manpower, machines, tools, moulds, raw materials, and other production resources.
- Coordinate with Planning, Quality, Maintenance, Stores, and Dispatch teams to ensure smooth production flow.
- Monitor shift-wise production, work-in-progress, downtime, rejection, and pending orders.
2. Rubber Moulding & Manufacturing Process Control
- Manage and monitor rubber moulding operations, where applicable, including process parameters, mould condition, cycle time, and output.
- Understand critical moulding parameters such as temperature, pressure, curing time, material preparation, and demoulding.
- Identify and troubleshoot process defects such as flash, short moulding, air traps, dimensional variation, and other moulding-related rejections.
- Ensure correct machine setup, mould changeover, process settings, and first-piece approval before starting production.
- Maintain process consistency and work with Quality and Maintenance teams to minimize mould-related issues and unplanned downtime.
- Support process validation, trial runs, new product introduction,
and process stabilization.
3. Exposure to Other Manufacturing Processes
- Coordinate and control production activities involving relevant processes such as CNC machining, turning, drilling, cutting, fabrication, assembly, or other component-manufacturing operations, depending on product requirements.
- Understand process flow, machine capability, tooling requirements, cycle time, and quality checkpoints.
- Ensure standard operating procedures and approved process parameters are followed.
- Identify opportunities to simplify operations, improve machine utilization, and reduce material wastage.
4. Quality & Rejection Control
- Ensure production conforms to approved drawings, specifications, control plans, and customer quality requirements.
- Monitor rejection, rework, scrap, and process deviations; initiate root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Apply problem-solving tools such as 5 Why, Fishbone Analysis, and 8D, in coordination with the Quality team.
- Ensure adherence to in-process inspection, first-piece approval, traceability, and process documentation requirements.
- Support customer complaint resolution and corrective/preventive action implementation.
5. Productivity & Continuous Improvement
- Track and improve key production KPIs, including output, cycle time, rejection percentage, machine downtime, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Drive initiatives to reduce cycle time, improve yield, minimize changeover time, and eliminate production losses.
- Implement 5S, Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, and other practical shop-floor improvement initiatives.
- Analyze recurring production problems and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Support cost reduction through improved process efficiency, manpower utilization, and material consumption.
6. Manpower & Team Management
- Allocate operators and workers according to production plans, machine requirements, and skill levels.
- Monitor operator performance, attendance, discipline, and adherence to standard work practices.
- Train operators on machine operation, process parameters, quality requirements, and safe working practices.
- Ensure shift handovers are effective and production issues are communicated clearly.
- Build a culture of accountability, productivity, quality ownership, and teamwork.
7. Maintenance, Safety & Documentation
- Coordinate with Maintenance for preventive maintenance, breakdown resolution, and reduction of machine downtime.
- Ensure proper handling and maintenance of machines, moulds, tools, fixtures, and production equipment.
- Enforce shop-floor safety, PPE compliance, housekeeping,
and safe operating practices.
- Maintain production reports, shift reports, rejection records, downtime logs, and process documentation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable work instructions and the company's quality management system.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)The candidate will be evaluated on measurable shop-floor performance, including:
- Achievement of daily and monthly production targets.
- Reduction in rejection, rework, and material wastage.
- Improvement in machine utilization and production efficiency.
- Reduction in machine breakdowns and unplanned downtime.
- Adherence to customer delivery schedules.
- Improvement in cycle time and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Compliance with quality, safety, 5S, and production documentation requirements.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Practical knowledge of automotive manufacturing and shop-floor production management.
- Hands-on exposure to rubber moulding and mould-related production activities is strongly preferred.
- Understanding of manufacturing process parameters, cycle time, tooling, and machine utilization.
- Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.
- Ability to manage production teams and coordinate across departments.
- Knowledge of production planning, rejection control, and continuous improvement techniques.
- Working knowledge of Excel and ERP/MRP systems.
- Strong ownership, discipline, communication, and execution skills.
Qualification & Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical, Production, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 3–7 years of relevant experience in production, preferably in automotive or automotive component manufacturing.
- Candidates with direct experience in rubber moulding, polymer/rubber components, or similar process-driven manufacturing environments will be preferred.
- Experience in managing shop-floor manpower, production targets, quality issues, and process improvements is essential.
- Familiarity with IATF 16949, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, and MSA will be an added advantage.
Ideal Candidate ProfileWe are looking for a proactive, technically sound, and execution-oriented production professional who is comfortable working on the shop floor and taking ownership of production performance. The candidate should be able to independently handle day-to-day production challenges, troubleshoot process issues, lead operators, improve productivity, and ensure consistent quality and on-time delivery.
Preference will be given to candidates currently working with automotive OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, or Tier-2 automotive component manufacturers who have hands-on production experience rather than purely planning or documentation-based experience.
