Role OverviewWe are looking for an experienced Head of AI/ML, Computer Vision & Medical Imaging to lead the organization's AI/ML and imaging function.

The role will be responsible for providing technical and strategic leadership across Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Image Processing, and Medical Imaging, with a solid focus on developing innovative solutions for digital pathology and healthcare applications.

The ideal candidate should have a strong research orientation, hands-on understanding of AI/ML and image processing, and a proven ability to lead advanced technical teams and research initiatives.

A completed Ph.D. is mandatory. Experience in research publications, patents, invention disclosures, or technology innovation will be highly valued, as the role will actively contribute to OptraSCAN's intellectual property and patent initiatives.

Key ResponsibilitiesAI/ML &

• Computer Vision Leadership

- Lead the overall AI/ML, Computer Vision, Image Processing, and Medical Imaging technology function.
- Define technical direction, architecture, research priorities, and long-term AI/ML roadmap.
- Lead development of AI/ML algorithms and computer vision solutions for medical images and digital pathology.
- Drive development of image analysis, segmentation, classification, detection, feature extraction, quantification, and predictive models.
- Guide teams in selecting appropriate ML/DL approaches for complex medical imaging problems.
- Ensure development of scalable, robust, explainable, and clinically relevant AI solutions.

Medical Imaging & • Digital Pathology
- Provide technical leadership in applying Computer Vision, Deep Learning, Image Processing, and AI to digital pathology and medical imaging.
- Work closely with pathology, clinical, product, software, and engineering teams to translate clinical requirements into AI/ML solutions.
- Drive development of algorithms for whole-slide images (WSI), cellular analysis, tissue analysis, biomarker detection, classification, and image quantification.




- Evaluate emerging AI/ML techniques and identify opportunities for their application within digital pathology.
- Ensure algorithms are developed with appropriate consideration for medical-device and clinical requirements.

Research, Innovation & • Patents
- Establish and drive a strong AI/ML research and innovation culture within the organization.
- Identify opportunities for novel algorithms, methodologies, and technology innovations.
- Lead patent identification, invention disclosures, patent drafting support, and IP generation in collaboration with legal/IP teams.
- Encourage the team to convert research and technical innovations into patents, publications, prototypes, and deployable products.
- Stay updated with advancements in Generative AI where relevant, Deep Learning, Computer Vision, Medical Imaging, Foundation Models, Multimodal AI, and AI for healthcare.
- Evaluate research papers, emerging technologies, and industry developments and translate relevant innovations into product opportunities.

Team & • Technical Leadership
- Build, mentor, and lead high-performing teams across AI/ML, Computer Vision, Image Processing, and Medical Imaging.
- Define technical standards, development methodologies, and best practices.
- Review and guide complex algorithm development and technical architecture.
- Mentor senior engineers, researchers, and technical leads.
- Build a culture of experimentation, scientific rigor, innovation, and continuous learning.
- Participate in hiring and capability development for the AI/ML organization.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Product, Software Engineering, Digital Pathology, Clinical, Regulatory, QA, R&D;, and Business teams.
- Translate business and clinical problems into technically feasible AI/ML solutions.
- Partner with leadership on technology strategy, product roadmap, and innovation initiatives.
- Present technical concepts, research outcomes, and AI/ML strategies to senior leadership and external stakeholders when required.

Clinical & • Productization
- Support the transition of AI/ML research from proof-of-concept to production-grade solutions.
- Establish appropriate validation and performance evaluation approaches for medical imaging algorithms.
- Work with clinical and pathology experts to understand datasets, annotations, clinical relevance, and model performance.
- Contribute to AI/ML documentation and development practices required for healthcare and medical-device products.





Required Technical Expertise
- Strong expertise in Artificial Intelligence & • Machine Learning

- Strong hands-on understanding of Computer Vision and Digital Image Processing.
- Strong expertise in Medical Imaging / Biomedical Image Analysis.
- Experience with Deep Learning and neural-network-based image analysis.
- Experience in image segmentation, classification, detection, feature extraction, object detection, image enhancement, and quantitative image analysis.
- Strong understanding of ML/DL model development, training, evaluation, optimization, and deployment.
- Experience working with large-scale image datasets.
- Programming experience in Python and/or C++.
- Strong understanding of relevant ML/CV frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, OpenCV, or equivalent.

Mandatory Qualifications
- Ph.D. completed in AI/ML, Computer Vision, Image Processing, Medical Imaging, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline.
- 12+ years of relevant experience in AI/ML, Computer Vision, Image Processing, Medical Imaging, or a related R&D; domain.
- Strong experience leading AI/ML or Computer Vision teams.
- Proven experience solving complex image-based problems using AI/ML.
- Strong research and innovation orientation.
- Experience working on patents, publications, invention disclosures, or technology research is highly desirable.
- Experience in medical imaging, healthcare AI, digital pathology, radiology, microscopy, or related imaging domains is strongly preferred.
