About the Role

Grest is looking for a commercially astute and strategically driven General Manager – Procurement to lead and scale its mobile phone procurement operations, with a primary focus on pre-owned and refurbished smartphones, particularly Apple iPhones and other leading brands.

This is a high-impact leadership position for an experienced professional with deep industry knowledge, established sourcing relationships, exceptional negotiation capabilities, and a robust understanding of mobile phone pricing, resale economics, and inventory profitability.

The individual will own the end-to-end procurement strategy, develop strategic sourcing partnerships, optimize purchase economics, and build a scalable procurement function aligned with the company's growth ambitions.

We are looking for a leader who understands not only where to source devices, but also how to acquire the right inventory at the right price, protect margins, manage depreciation risk, and build a sustainable competitive advantage.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Sourcing & Procurement

- Develop and execute the end-to-end procurement strategy for pre-owned and refurbished smartphones.
- Build and expand sourcing channels across organized retail chains, trade-in and exchange platforms, distributors, resellers, corporate buyback programs, and institutional partners.
- Establish strategic relationships with high-volume suppliers and unlock new sourcing opportunities.
- Drive bulk procurement while maintaining purchase discipline, inventory quality, and profitability.
- Build a scalable sourcing ecosystem to ensure consistent availability of the right inventory.

2. Commercial Strategy, Pricing & Profitability

- Own procurement pricing, commercial negotiations, and purchase economics across brands, models, storage variants, grades, and sourcing channels.
- Establish model-wise and grade-wise buying benchmarks based on market prices, expected resale values, refurbishment costs, depreciation, and target margins.
- Monitor market movements, resale trends, competitor pricing, and demand patterns to make informed purchasing decisions.
- Ensure procurement decisions meet approved profitability targets and minimize margin leakage.
- Identify and prevent overpricing, incorrect purchases, and avoidable procurement losses.

3. Vendor Management & Strategic Partnerships

- Develop and maintain long-term relationships with key suppliers, organized retail groups, trade-in partners, distributors, and institutional sourcing partners.
- Lead commercial negotiations covering purchase rates,



volumes, payment terms, and contractual commitments.
- Establish vendor performance metrics for pricing, quality, delivery, documentation, and reliability.
- Drive vendor accountability, sourcing productivity, and continuous improvement across the supplier network.

4. Quality, Governance & Procurement Controls

- Strengthen procurement controls covering device model, storage, IMEI, grade, functional condition, ownership verification, and purchase documentation.
- Collaborate with Quality Control, Warehouse, Operations, and Finance teams to minimize mismatches, rejections, and procurement-related losses.
- Ensure appropriate documentation, applicable GST-compliant invoices, and adherence to company procurement policies.
- Analyze discrepancies and losses, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.

5. Inventory Planning & Working Capital Optimization

- Align procurement plans with sales forecasts, market demand, inventory requirements, and business growth objectives.
- Optimize inventory availability, stock turnover, and working capital utilization.
- Minimize inventory ageing, price depreciation, and exposure to slow-moving devices.
- Improve procurement planning, delivery timelines, warehouse handovers, and stock reconciliation.
- Balance sourcing volume and inventory availability with margin expectations and market risk.

6. Team Leadership & Performance Management

- Lead, mentor, and develop the procurement team, including buyers, category managers, sourcing specialists, and vendor relationship executives.
- Establish clear procurement targets, performance metrics, and accountability frameworks.
- Drive a culture of commercial ownership, analytical decision-making, and execution excellence.
- Build robust processes and team capabilities to support future business expansion.

7. MIS & Strategic Business Reviews

- Own procurement MIS covering volumes, average purchase prices, sourcing-channel performance, vendor productivity, margins, quality discrepancies, and inventory ageing.
- Monitor procurement budgets, payment commitments, working capital utilization, and performance against approved buying benchmarks.
- Present business performance, market intelligence, procurement risks, and improvement plans to senior leadership.
- Identify opportunities to improve sourcing efficiency, reduce costs,



and enhance overall procurement profitability.

Required Experience & Qualifications

- 8–12+ years of experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, category management, or commercial leadership.
- Relevant experience in mobile phones, consumer electronics, organized trade-in, pre-owned devices, or the refurbished electronics industry is strongly preferred.
- Proven experience managing bulk procurement, high-value vendor relationships, and multi-channel sourcing operations.
- Strong understanding of Apple iPhones and Android smartphones, including models, storage variants, device grades, market prices, resale values, and depreciation trends.
- Demonstrated success in commercial negotiations, pricing strategy, vendor development, and cost optimization.
- Strong analytical capabilities and understanding of purchase economics, gross margins, inventory risks, and working capital.
- Proficiency in Excel, procurement MIS, dashboards, and inventory management systems.
- Proven ability to lead teams, establish performance metrics, and build scalable procurement processes.

Performance will be evaluated against measurable business outcomes, including:

- Procurement volume and achievement of sourcing targets.
- Purchase price competitiveness against approved market benchmarks.
- Gross margin and profitability of procured inventory.
- Vendor network expansion and sourcing productivity.
- Purchase accuracy, quality discrepancies, and avoidable losses.
- Inventory turnover, ageing, and depreciation-related losses.
- Working capital efficiency and procurement budget adherence.
- Team productivity and operational execution.
