Job Title: Senior Java Engineer (Search & Relevancy)

Location: India (remote within the country)

Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Java Engineer with deep expertise in enterprise backend development, distributed systems, and search technologies. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a proven track record of designing, building, and optimizing high-performance, scalable applications in complex environments such as global marketplaces, e-commerce platforms, or FinTech transaction systems. This role requires expert-level Java and Spring development skills, robust hands-on experience with Elasticsearch/OpenSearch and Apache Kafka, and a solid understanding of event-driven architectures and high-concurrency systems.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and maintain highly scalable, high-performance backend applications using Java and the Spring ecosystem.
- Architect and optimize distributed systems capable of handling high transaction volumes and concurrent workloads.
- Build and enhance search and relevancy solutions using Elasticsearch and/or OpenSearch.
- Design and optimize search indexes, custom analyzers, sharding strategies, and cluster performance.
- Develop and maintain event-driven architectures and real-time data processing pipelines using Apache Kafka.
- Design, implement, and optimize database solutions across relational and NoSQL technologies.
- Identify and resolve complex performance bottlenecks, ensuring system reliability, availability, and scalability.




- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
- Participate in architectural discussions, technical decision-making, and code reviews to maintain high engineering standards.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering best practices.

Required Qualifications

- 10+ years of professional experience in enterprise backend software engineering, preferably working with high-concurrency distributed systems.
- Expert-level proficiency in Java (8–21), with extensive hands-on experience building enterprise-grade backend applications.
- Deep expertise in the Spring ecosystem, including Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Security, and Spring Data JPA/Hibernate.
- Strong experience designing and developing scalable microservices and distributed architectures.
- Advanced knowledge of Elasticsearch and/or OpenSearch, including index design, custom analyzers, sharding strategies, query optimization, and cluster tuning.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Apache Kafka, distributed messaging systems, and event-driven architectures.
- Strong knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases, particularly PostgreSQL, Redis, and DynamoDB.




- Proven experience developing or supporting large-scale transactional platforms, ideally within global marketplaces, e-commerce, or FinTech environments.
- Solid understanding of algorithms, data structures, concurrency, multithreading, and software design principles.
- Experience troubleshooting complex production issues and optimizing application performance.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, and modern software delivery practices.

Nice to Have

- Strong working knowledge of Kotlin as a secondary programming language.
- Experience with advanced search relevancy techniques, ranking optimization, and large-scale search platforms.
- Experience with Java batch processing and large-scale data processing workflows.
- Exposure to machine learning or data analytics.
- Previous experience providing technical leadership or mentoring engineering teams.
