Electronic City, Bangalore Work Mode: Hybrid Payroll: Haparz Budget open for the right candidate Role Overview We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Scala/Pekko Engineer to design, develop, and maintain scalable, resilient, cloud-native backend applications. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Scala, Pekko or Akka, distributed systems, event-driven architecture, and modern backend engineering practices. You will contribute to architecture and technical design decisions, build reliable microservices and APIs, and help deliver high-performance systems using AWS, Kafka, Docker, and Kubernetes. The role requires strong engineering ownership, architectural thinking, and the ability to collaborate with product, frontend, and SRE teams.

Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, highly available backend services using Scala and contemporary functional programming practices.
• Build asynchronous, concurrent, and fault-tolerant applications using Apache Pekko or Akka.
• Develop clean, maintainable, testable code using Scala libraries and functional programming tools such as Cats and Cats Effect.
• Contribute to system architecture, distributed systems design, microservices, API contracts, and technical decision-making.
• Design and implement Event Sourcing, CQRS, Domain-Driven Design (DDD), and event-driven architectures using Kafka.
• Build resilient, high-performance APIs and distributed services with appropriate error handling, recovery, and concurrency controls.
• Develop, deploy, and operate cloud-native applications on AWS using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Work with relational and non-relational databases, ensuring data consistency, performance, and appropriate data modelling.
• Establish and maintain automated testing, code quality standards, observability, logging, metrics, and production reliability.




• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and continuous improvement of software delivery practices.
• Collaborate with Product, Front-End, and SRE teams to translate business requirements into reliable technical solutions.
• Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, technical mentoring, and knowledge-sharing activities.
• Take end-to-end ownership of engineering outcomes, troubleshoot complex production issues, and challenge technical decisions constructively. Required Technical Experience
• 12+ years of software engineering experience, with robust hands-on expertise in Scala backend development.
• Strong practical experience with Apache Pekko and/or Akka for concurrent, asynchronous, and distributed applications.
• Solid understanding of functional programming, including practical use of Cats and Cats Effect.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, microservices, concurrency, fault tolerance, and API design.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka and event-driven architectures.
• Practical knowledge of Event Sourcing, CQRS, and Domain-Driven Design.
• Experience building and operating cloud-native backend services on AWS.
• Hands-on exposure to Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, automated testing, and production monitoring.
• Experience with relational and non-relational databases.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, technical ownership, and cross-functional collaboration skills. Preferred / Additional Experience
• Experience migrating or modernizing Akka-based systems to Apache Pekko, or working with both ecosystems.
• Experience with production-scale distributed systems and high-throughput event processing.
• Experience with Java or Python as complementary backend languages.
• Familiarity with production observability, performance tuning, resilience testing, and incident management.
