Text resize General Definition Of Work The Tax Department of Lee County Government is seeking a qualified individual to fill the role of Tax Collections Manager. This position involves supervising employees to ensure that office procedures are followed according to County policy and North Carolina General Statute; handling the responsibility for all monies and charged to the correct charge codes; balancing revenues and accounts receivable; preparing journal entries; making calculations and percentages; preparing payment to fire districts; auditing accounts receivable; returning checks; performing the preparation of the budget, refunds and fiscal year audit reports; preparing daily and audit reports for municipalities; and all other duties as assigned. The employee in this role must exercise independent judgment and initiative in a wide variety of collection activities, as well as exercise considerable tact and courtesy in frequent contact with the public, lawyers, banks, mortgage companies, and other related organiza­tions. Work is performed under the general direction of the Tax Administrator. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Must have comprehensive knowledge of the portions of the law related to tax collections, including the North Carolina Revenue Act, Machinery Act,



and property tax laws; comprehensive knowledge of governmental accounting procedures and fiscal management; ability to develop and implement an effective system for the collection, receipting and reporting of large sums of money; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with county officials, associates and the general public; ability to prepare detailed reports. Education And Experience A bachelor’s degree with coursework in finance, business, and accounting, related field; 3 to 5 years of experience in collections or financial work, including some supervisory experience, preferably in a tax-related field; or any equivalent combi­nation of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Special Requirements Requires certification as Deputy Tax Collector within 2 years of employment. Appropriate training will be provided and must be completed on ongoing basis.
