Role Description The Lead Software Engineer (Java, Spark) is a full-time remote role responsible for designing, building, and maintaining high-performance, scalable data processing and validation services that power DataBuck. Day-to-day activities include leading the architecture and implementation of backend components in Java and Apache Spark, optimizing data pipelines, and ensuring reliability, security, and maintainability of the platform. The person in this role will collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and other engineers to translate requirements into robust technical solutions, perform code reviews, and mentor team members on best practices.





Additional responsibilities include troubleshooting production issues, improving system performance, contributing to technical documentation, and driving continuous improvement across the engineering stack.

Qualifications

- Strong foundation in Computer Science, including data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems concepts.
- Hands-on experience in Back-End Web Development and Software Development, particularly for cloud-based or data-intensive applications.
- Proficiency in Programming with Java and related ecosystems, including building and maintaining production-quality services.
- Practical experience with Apache Spark or similar distributed data processing frameworks, and familiarity with big data technologies.
- Experience leading engineering projects or teams, including code reviews, technical guidance, and architectural decision-making.
- Comfort with DevOps practices, version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and monitoring/logging tools.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong problem-solving skills, clear communication, and ability to work effectively in a remote, collaborative workplace.
