About ZillOut
ZillOut builds the operating layer behind how India goes out: nightlife, dining and live events, where real money moves every minute.
Clubs, cafés, sundowners and concerts run on one system: POS and ordering, entry and the digital cover, ticketing and reservations. Venues and organizers use it to run tighter operations, stop revenue leaks and understand their guests.
We're hiring a backend engineer to build the platform venues and organizers run on: entry, ticketing, reservations, ordering, and payments. Strong fundamentals matter more than years of experience, and frontend skills are a plus.
Role: Backend Engineer (Java / Spring Boot)
Experience: 0–2 years
Employment: Full-time
Location: Remote
What you'll work on
You'll ship backend features that venue staff, organizers and guests use the same week.
- Build and maintain REST APIs in Java and Spring Boot for our merchant, partner and customer apps
- Design PostgreSQL tables and keep queries quick on a busy Friday night
- Work on money flows (bills, taxes, discounts, online payments and refunds), where every rupee has to add up
- Build integrations: WhatsApp messaging, payment gateways, delivery platforms and thermal printers for KOTs and bills
- Push live order updates over WebSockets and run background work through message queues
- Debug production issues from logs and monitoring, then ship the fix
- Agree on API contracts with frontend engineers, and make the small React change yourself when a feature needs both ends
What we're looking for
Experience is not a hard filter. A fresher with solid projects or internships is as welcome as someone with 1–2 years in a job.
- Good Java fundamentals: OOP, collections, exceptions and the basics of threads
- Has built a REST API with Spring Boot (an internship, college or personal project all count)
- Comfortable with SQL: joins, indexes and transactions; PostgreSQL or MySQL
- Understands HTTP: methods, status codes, JSON and how login sessions or tokens work
- Uses Git every day: branches, pull requests and fixing merge conflicts
- Reads unfamiliar code, debugs step by step and asks when stuck
- Cares about getting it right: bills and payments are full of edge cases
Good to have
Frontend knowledge is the biggest plus. Engineers here often ship an API and the screen that uses it.
- React: hooks, fetching data from APIs and forms; TypeScript or a component library like Chakra UI or MUI
- JPA / Hibernate, Spring Security, JWT
- Message queues (RabbitMQ or Kafka) and WebSockets
- Docker, Linux basics, AWS (EC2, RDS, S3)
- A side project that is live, or anything real people have used
- An interest in restaurants, nightlife, or events
Why join
- What you build goes live at real venues within a sprint
- Small team: you own features end to end, from the table design to the screen
- Learn backend, frontend, mobile and infra in one place
- Work directly with the founders and see your work change how venues run
