Role & responsibilities
Train operators: Teach operators how to check their own parts and write transparent daily inspection reports.
Check paperwork: Double-check the "First-Part" setup reports and daily patrol sheets to make sure the floor checks are being done right.
Do random checks: Walk around and check random parts at each machine to make sure their sizes (dimensions) are right and there are no visual defects like cracks or scratches.
Verify machine papers: Check that every machine has the correct part drawing, tool sheet, and inspection plan before starting.
Check route cards: Check and sign the batch route cards every time a machining step is finished.
Manage tools and gauges: Give operators the right measuring tools and make sure the gauges are calibrated and not expired.
Stop bad production: Stop the machine immediately if you find a bad part, and lock away the affected batch so it does not mix with good parts.
Guide part tagging: Teach operators how to put Red Tags on rejected parts and Accepted Tags on good parts.
Check the last part: Inspect the very last part of a batch to make sure the cutting tools did not wear out or drift during the run.
Explicit lines between batches: Clean and check the machine area during a batch changeover so old parts or old drawings do not get mixed up with the new batch.
Count and log scrap: Count and write down the number of positive parts and rejected parts for every batch to keep track of total waste.
Do last piece inspection: Inspect the final piece right after a batch production is completely finished to officially close out the batch.
