Position: Mechanical Engineer – Intern
Location: Bangalore (On-site)
Duration: 6 Months
Qualification: B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or related fields
About Us
At EMO Energy, we're a fast-moving deep-tech startup revolutionizing electric mobility. We build a complete end-to-end EV technology stack, from high-performance battery systems to intelligent control electronics. Our focus is on innovation, speed, and real-world impact, with products designed and developed from the ground up.
Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineer – Intern will work closely with our Battery R&D; team to experiment, analyse, and optimise charging profiles for advanced battery systems. This role involves hands-on experimentation, data collection, and analysis to improve battery performance and lifecycle. It provides a unique opportunity to gain exposure to innovative EV technology and contribute to real-world solutions in the sustainable mobility sector.
What You Will Do
- Understanding Cell Cycling and Data Collection including charge/discharge cycles and health metrics.
- Set up and operate lab equipment like cyclers and battery testing setups while adhering to safety protocols and collect and log data related to charge/discharge cycles, voltage, current, temperature, and capacity degradation.
- Experimentation with Different Charging Profiles and conduct baseline tests using standard charging profiles to establish reference performance metrics.
- Design and execute experiments with various quick-charging profiles, optimising parameters such as current rates, charging times, and rest intervals.
- Analyse the impact of different profiles on battery lifecycle,
focusing on both short-term capacity and long-term health.
- Evaluate cycle performance data to determine efficiency, cycle life, and capacity degradation rates and develop basic predictive models (potentially utilizing Machine Learning) for estimating lifecycle impacts based on charging profiles.
- Identify optimal charging curves using data-driven approaches to balance speed and battery longevity.
- Maintain detailed documentation of experiments, methodologies, and results and prepare interim and final reports summarizing key findings and recommended practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to explore machine learning applications in battery health monitoring.
What We're Looking For
- Pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Basic understanding of lithium-ion batteries, battery systems, and electrochemical processes.
- Knowledge of battery testing, charge/discharge cycles, and laboratory equipment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in experimentation and data analysis.
- Understanding of laboratory safety practices and testing protocols.
- Good documentation and communication skills.
- Hands-on experience or academic projects involving EV technology, battery testing, or energy storage systems will be an added advantage.
- Available for a full-time internship of 6 months, with the possibility of full-time employment based on performance.
Note: This is a paid internship.
