About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Robotics Technician responsible for assembling electronic circuits and PCBs, soldering SMD components, assembling robotic systems, and conducting functional testing and troubleshooting. The candidate will work with engineers to build, test, debug, and maintain robotics hardware used in educational, research, and competition-based projects.
Key Responsibilities1. PCB Assembly and Soldering
- Assemble electronic circuits and printed circuit boards (PCBs) as per schematics and assembly drawings.
- Perform through-hole and SMD component soldering, including fine-pitch components.
- Use soldering stations, hot-air rework stations, multimeters, and other electronics tools.
- Inspect solder joints for shorts, dry joints, bridging, and other defects.
- Perform PCB rework, component replacement, and basic fault diagnosis.
2. Robotics Assembly
- Assemble robots using mechanical frames, motors, wheels, gears, sensors, actuators, and other components.
- Install and connect controllers such as Arduino, ESP32, and other microcontroller boards.
- Integrate motor drivers, encoders, sensors, servo motors, batteries, and wiring harnesses.
- Perform mechanical fitting, drilling, fastening, cable routing, and enclosure assembly where required.
- Follow assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials (BOMs).
3. Testing and Quality Control
- Conduct electrical continuity, power supply, voltage, and current checks.
- Test PCBs and electronic modules before integration into robots.
- Perform functional testing of motors, encoders, sensors, actuators, and communication interfaces.
- Test completed robots for movement, sensor response, accuracy, and repeatability.
- Identify, document, and troubleshoot hardware and assembly defects.
- Maintain test reports, inspection checklists, and quality records.
4. Troubleshooting and Maintenance
- Diagnose hardware failures and assist engineers in resolving technical issues.
- Identify wiring errors, component failures, loose connections, and mechanical alignment problems.
- Repair and maintain robotic kits, prototypes, and electronic equipment.
- Support prototype development, hardware modifications, and iterative testing.
5. Inventory and Workshop Management
- Maintain electronic components, tools, spare parts, and consumables.
- Track component usage and report shortages.
- Maintain an organised and protected electronics assembly and testing workspace.
- Follow ESD precautions and safe soldering practices.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Diploma in Electronics, B.E./B.Tech in Electronics, Electrical, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field.
- Practical knowledge of soldering and basic electronic circuit assembly.
- Familiarity with SMD and through-hole components.
- Ability to read basic circuit schematics, wiring diagrams,
and component datasheets.
- Working knowledge of multimeters, regulated power supplies, and basic electronic testing instruments.
- Basic understanding of DC motors, motor drivers, sensors, microcontrollers, and batteries.
- Positive manual dexterity, attention to detail, and systematic troubleshooting skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with SMD rework, hot-air soldering, and fine-pitch ICs.
- Familiarity with Arduino, ESP32, I2C, UART, and SPI interfaces.
- Experience assembling mobile robots, robotic arms, or educational robotics kits.
- Basic understanding of embedded systems and uploading firmware.
- Familiarity with mechanical tools, 3D-printed parts, CAD drawings, and prototype fabrication.
- Ability to maintain test documentation and follow assembly procedures.
Performance Expectations
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Assemble PCBs and robotic systems according to specifications.
- Produce reliable solder joints and neat, properly secured wiring.
- Complete assigned assembly and testing tasks within agreed timelines.
- Detect defects early and reduce rework through careful inspection.
- Maintain accurate testing records and follow standard operating procedures.
- Keep tools, components, and workstations organised.
Personal Attributes
- Hands-on and practical approach to engineering.
- Patient, careful, and detail-oriented.
- Willingness to learn new technologies and work on prototypes.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with engineers.
- Strong sense of responsibility for quality and safety.
