Ensure reliable plant operations, equipment availability, uninterrupted utilities, GMP compliance, engineering safety, cost optimization, and successful execution of capital projects. The DGM will provide strategic and operational leadership to multidisciplinary engineering teams while ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory, statutory, environmental, and safety requirements. 2. Key Responsibilities A. Mechanical Engineering & Maintenance Lead preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of all production and utility equipment. Ensure reliability of reactors, centrifuges, ANFDs, vacuum dryers, agitated reactors, heat exchangers, condensers, pumps, compressors, and vacuum systems. Manage mechanical seals, agitators, gearboxes, bearings, piping, valves, and pressure equipment. Develop equipment reliability strategies, preventive maintenance plans, and critical spare-parts policies. Drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions for recurring breakdowns. Oversee equipment installation, overhauling, inspection, alignment, and commissioning. Ensure mechanical integrity and applicable statutory inspections of pressure systems and other regulated equipment. B. Utilities Management Lead operation and maintenance of all critical and non-critical plant utility systems. Ensure reliable operation of boilers, thermic fluid heaters, chillers, cooling towers, HVAC, compressed air, nitrogen, and vacuum systems. Manage water treatment, DM/purified water systems where applicable, ETP, solvent recovery, and associated environmental infrastructure. Monitor utility consumption, efficiency, reliability, and operating costs. Ensure preventive maintenance and qualification of critical GMP utilities where required. Implement energy conservation, water reduction, and utility optimization initiatives. Develop contingency plans for utility failures affecting production and product quality. C. Electrical Engineering Manage HT/LT electrical distribution, transformers, switchgear, PCC/MCC panels, DG sets, UPS, and emergency power systems. Ensure electrical reliability, preventive maintenance, earthing, lightning protection, and statutory compliance. Monitor power consumption, demand management, power factor, and electrical losses. Ensure suitable equipment and electrical protection for classified hazardous areas.
Lead electrical breakdown investigations and reliability improvement programs. Coordinate statutory electrical inspections and safety audits. D. Instrumentation & Automation Lead maintenance and reliability of field instruments, transmitters, control valves, weighing systems, and sensors. Ensure reliable operation of PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI, and associated automation systems. Establish calibration programs and maintain calibration records and equipment history. Ensure critical interlocks, alarms, and safety-related control systems are maintained and tested as applicable. Support automation upgrades, process control improvements, and system obsolescence management. Coordinate computerized-system qualification, access controls, audit trails, and data-integrity requirements with QA and IT, as applicable. E. Projects, CAPEX & Engineering Development Prepare and manage annual CAPEX plans, engineering budgets, and long-term plant development plans. Lead plant expansion, new production blocks, utility upgrades, equipment replacement, and infrastructure projects. Review engineering specifications, equipment datasheets, layouts, P&IDs;, and vendor drawings. Manage technical bid evaluations, vendor selection, procurement coordination, erection, commissioning, and project handover. Ensure projects are executed within approved cost, quality, safety, and schedule requirements. Coordinate with Production, QA, QC, EHS, Procurement, Finance, and external consultants. Ensure engineering risk assessments, qualification, and validation activities are completed before GMP release, where applicable. F. GMP, Regulatory & Quality Compliance Ensure engineering operations comply with cGMP, approved SOPs, and applicable regulatory requirements. Maintain engineering documentation, including preventive maintenance records, calibration records, equipment history, utility logs, and qualification documents. Support USFDA, EU GMP, WHO-GMP, customer, and internal audits as applicable. Manage engineering deviations, change controls, CAPA, and audit observations in coordination with QA.
Ensure calibration and preventive maintenance activities are completed within approved schedules. Maintain compliance with applicable environmental, electrical, boiler, fire, factory, and pressure-system regulations. G. EHS & Process Safety Ensure compliance with permit-to-work, LOTO, confined-space entry, hot-work, and contractor safety procedures. Participate in HAZOP, engineering risk assessments, process safety reviews, and incident investigations. Ensure secure maintenance of equipment handling flammable solvents, corrosive chemicals, and hazardous process materials. Monitor engineering safety performance and closure of corrective actions. Coordinate emergency preparedness, fire protection, and critical utility contingency planning. H. Leadership, Budget & Operational Excellence Lead Mechanical, Utilities, Electrical, Instrumentation, Automation, and Projects teams. Establish departmental KPIs, manpower plans, competency matrices, and training programs. Prepare annual OPEX and CAPEX budgets and control maintenance, energy, contractor, and spare-parts costs.
