Indusun Drilling Fluids Private Limited is a specialty drilling fluids and oilfield chemicals manufacturer based in Dehradun. We are certified to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 45001:2018 and API Q1/Q2, and we supply products that must meet the quality expectations of oil and gas operators and service companies.

Role Purpose

To own the technology of our drilling starch and carboxymethyl starch (CMS) manufacturing, from native corn starch to finished product. The Technical Lead will start and stabilise production, lead our trained plant supervisors and operators on the shop floor, and deliver batches that consistently pass oil and gas customer QC. The role also builds the documented process knowledge that makes the plant independent of any single individual.

Key Responsibilities

1. Process ownership and production

- Take technical charge of the drilling starch (pregelatinised and/or crosslinked/modified) and carboxymethyl starch production lines.
- Define, validate and control critical process parameters, including reagent ratios (starch, NaOH, monochloroacetic acid), reaction temperature and time, reaction medium, neutralisation, washing, drying, milling and sieving.
- Be present during batches, guide supervisors and operators in real time, and resolve process deviations quickly.
- Drive yield, cost and cycle-time improvements without compromising quality.

2. Product quality and customer approval

- Ensure every batch meets the agreed specification, including degree of substitution, viscosity, moisture, pH, particle size, salt/by-product content and fluid loss performance.
- Work with QA/QC on API RP 13B-1 type performance testing in fresh water, salt and customer test brines.
- Maintain batch-to-batch consistency and support customer qualification,



trials and technical queries.
- Lead root-cause analysis and corrective and preventive action (CAPA) for off-spec batches and customer complaints.

3. Knowledge capture and documentation

- Recover and consolidate existing process knowledge from historical batch records, retained samples, supervisors and supplier information.
- Create and maintain controlled SOPs, batch manufacturing records, critical process parameter ranges, raw material specifications and troubleshooting guides.
- Set up a retained-sample and batch-traceability system.
- Align all documentation with our ISO 9001 and API Q1/Q2 quality system.

4. People development

- Train and mentor supervisors and operators so that the process can be run reliably from documented procedures.
- Build a succession plan and cross-train at least two team members on each critical process step.

5. R&D; and product improvement

- Develop improved or current grades of starch-based fluid loss reducers and viscosifiers for different mud systems (fresh water, salt, KCl, high-temperature as applicable).
- Evaluate alternative raw materials, suppliers and process routes for cost and performance.
- Support scale-up from lab to pilot to plant scale.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

- M.Sc. in Organic, Polymer or Carbohydrate Chemistry, or B.Tech/M.Tech in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Technology or Oils/Carbohydrate Technology. A PhD is an advantage.

Experience

- 8 to 15 years of hands-on experience in manufacturing starch derivatives, cellulose ethers, guar derivatives, CMC or similar polysaccharide etherification/modification at commercial scale.
- Demonstrated experience in plant-scale troubleshooting and in taking a process from lab scale to production.
- Experience supplying or testing for oil and gas or other regulated industrial customers is strongly preferred.
