We are looking for a passionate and technically inclined Mechanical CAD Design Intern to join our Product Design & Development team. The selected candidate will work on the design and development of innovative consumer and electromechanical products involving plastic components, mechanical assemblies, motor-driven mechanisms, housings, and structural components.
This internship offers practical exposure to the complete product development cycle, from concept development and CAD modelling to prototyping, testing, and manufacturing support.
Key Roles & Responsibilities1. Mechanical Design & 3D CAD Modelling
· Develop accurate 3D part models and mechanical assemblies using SolidWorks.
· Create detailed 2D engineering drawings with dimensions, tolerances, and manufacturing specifications.
· Design plastic housings, enclosures, mounting brackets, supports, and mechanical components.
· Develop assembly models incorporating motors, fans, fasteners, and other electromechanical components.
· Prepare exploded assembly views, section views, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
· Modify and optimise existing designs based on functional, aesthetic, and manufacturing requirements.
2. Product Development & Engineering
· Convert product concepts, sketches, and reference samples into functional CAD designs.
· Support design activities for consumer and electromechanical products.
· Assist in mechanical packaging and integration of motors, PCBs, wiring, and associated components.
· Evaluate component fitment, clearances, interference, and assembly feasibility.
· Support design improvements related to product performance, reliability, ergonomics, and manufacturability.
3. Prototyping & Design Validation
· Prepare CAD models suitable for 3D printing and rapid prototyping.
· Support prototype assembly, inspection, and functional testing.
· Perform dimensional checks using vernier calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
· Identify design issues during prototype trials and suggest improvements.
· Maintain design iteration records and engineering change documentation.
4. Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFM/DFA)
· Assist in designing components suitable for plastic injection moulding, sheet metal fabrication, and machining.
· Apply basic design principles involving wall thickness, ribs, bosses, draft angles, and fastening arrangements.
· Support material selection based on mechanical properties, cost, and manufacturing feasibility.
Prepare manufacturing drawings and technical documentation for supplier discussions
