Role Purpose The Excel VBA Automation Developer designs and delivers reliable Excel-based automations for recurring reports, data preparation, consolidation, reconciliation and management information. The role converts manual spreadsheet activities into controlled, maintainable solutions and supports them through testing, implementation and stabilization. Key Responsibilities Engage report owners and process users to understand existing workbooks, data sources, business rules, controls, pain points, frequency, volumes and expected outputs. Assess whether Excel/VBA is the appropriate solution and identify cases better suited to Power Query, Power BI, Power Automate, RPA, Python, SQL or an enterprise application. Design modular and maintainable VBA solutions with transparent separation of inputs, processing logic, validations, outputs, configuration and error handling. Automate file ingestion, data cleansing, transformation, consolidation, calculations, reconciliations, formatting, charting, PivotTables and report distribution. Build user-friendly controls using buttons, forms, parameters, status messages and validation prompts where appropriate. Connect Excel to folders, CSV/text files, other workbooks, Outlook, databases, APIs or approved enterprise sources as required. Optimize performance for large workbooks by minimizing worksheet interaction, controlling calculation and screen updating, and using arrays, dictionaries or efficient data structures. Implement structured error handling, audit logs, exception reports, input validation, recovery steps and clear user messages. Perform unit,



integration, regression and user acceptance testing; resolve defects and support deployment and hypercare. Document code, dependencies, operating instructions, assumptions, known limitations and support procedures. Additional Technical Skills Advanced Excel: formulas, dynamic arrays, Power Query, PivotTables, charts, data validation and workbook protection. SQL for extracting, validating and reconciling reporting data. Power BI for governed dashboards and visualization where Excel output is not the best end state. Power Automate Desktop or Cloud, UiPath or another RPA platform for activities extending beyond Excel. Git or another version-control approach suitable for exported VBA source modules and supporting assets. Basic knowledge of Python, Office Scripts, JavaScript/TypeScript or .NET is an advantage for modernization and scale. AI and Automation Tools - Advantage Experience using approved AI coding assistants to accelerate code drafting, explanation, refactoring and test-case creation, with mandatory developer review and validation. Knowledge of GenAI use cases for summarizing report commentary, extracting structured information, classifying exceptions or supporting narrative generation, subject to data-security and human-review controls. Exposure to OCR/document intelligence, Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio, Azure AI services or comparable enterprise AI tools is advantageous. Ability to recognize when AI should not be used because deterministic rules, auditability or data sensitivity require a conventional solution.
