About Thinkable Thinkable produces large-scale live events with some of the world's most interesting thinkers — Steven Pinker, Richard Dawkins, Ryan Holiday, Robert Greene, Jefferson Fisher, Dr Ramani Durvasula, Anna Funder. We sell out theatres and concert halls across Australia, New Zealand and North America, and we are expanding into the UK, India and Sri Lanka. We are a small, fully remote team of about fifteen people across Australia, India and Sri Lanka. There is no office and there are no fixed hours. People here own their patch, and the ones who deliver grow quickly — our Head of Logistics started as a social media assistant four years ago. The Role This role owns everything that sells more than one ticket at a time. Two halves, one job:
• Partnerships and sponsorship. Finding, pitching and closing organisations that want to be associated with our tours — corporates, universities, foundations, membership bodies, brands. Sponsorship, naming rights, in-kind partnerships and content partnerships.
• B2B ticket and group sales. Selling blocks of seats and group bookings to companies, professional associations, business schools, executive teams and member networks. Ten seats at a time, fifty seats at a time, a whole reserve at a time. These are the same muscle. Both are about finding the person inside an organisation who has a budget and a reason to care, and giving them something they can say yes to without asking three other people for permission. You will work directly with Desh, the founder. There is no layer between you and the decision-maker, which means fast answers and nowhere to hide.
What You'll Do
• Build and own the pipeline — a real CRM record, not a mental list. Every organisation, every contact, every conversation, every next step, with a date against it.
• Prospect into named target accounts for each tour on the slate, starting with Richard Dawkins, Robert Greene, Dr Ramani Durvasula, Maggie Haberman & Jonathan Swan.
• Open relationships with professional bodies and associations — law, psychology, medicine, accounting, HR, directors' institutes — where our speakers map onto their members' professional development.
• Build and price group and corporate packages: block rates, seating tiers, pre-show receptions, meet-and-greets, signed books, branded moments.
• Run partnership and sponsorship conversations end to end — first approach, proposal, negotiation, contract, delivery, renewal.
• Work the warm channels first: our existing database of roughly 50,000 subscribers, past group buyers, partner member lists and your own network. Cold email is a supporting channel, never the plan.
• Give the people who've bought from us before a reason to buy again, every tour, before the public campaign starts.
• Report weekly: what moved, what stalled, what closed, what you expect to close and how confident you are. Numbers that match the CRM.
• Coordinate with our ticketing, marketing and production people so that what you've sold actually gets delivered properly on the night. What We're Looking For
• At least two years in B2B sales, partnerships, sponsorship, business development or corporate fundraising, where you personally carried a number and hit it.
• Evidence you have closed deals with organisations, not just individuals. Tell us the deal, the value, the timeline and what nearly killed it.
• Fluent, confident written and spoken English. Most of your work is persuading senior Australian, New Zealand and American professionals in writing.
• Genuinely comfortable with being told no, and with following up seven times without becoming annoying.
• Disciplined about records. If it isn't in the CRM it didn't happen, and we will check.
• Able to start immediately and available for live overlap with Australian business hours for meetings and calls.
• Based in India or Sri Lanka, with reliable power, internet and your own laptop.
• Interested in the work. You don't have to have read every book, but you should be the kind of person who would want to be in the room. Nice To Have
• Experience selling live events, ticketing, conferences, sponsorship or memberships.
• Experience with CPD or professional accreditation programmes.
• Hands-on with a CRM and outbound tooling — HubSpot, Apollo, Pipedrive or similar. Compensation Base : INR 60,000–80,000 per month (India) or LKR 150,000–200,000 per month (Sri Lanka), depending on experience Hours verification : Full base is payable in months where full-time hours are verified through Clockify Commission — partnerships : 10% of every sponsorship and partnership deal you originate and close Commission — group sales : 15% of net revenue on every corporate block and group booking you originate Review : Three-month trial period, then a formal review of base and commission against results Progression : This role is built to become a department. The right person leads it. Commission is uncapped and paid on money actually received. There is no ceiling. The base is what we pay you to turn up; the commission is what you come here for. What You Could Actually Earn Percentages are abstract, so here is the whole package — base plus commission — at four levels of performance. Every number assumes you originated and closed the business yourself. 1. Finding Your Feet
• Performance: AUD 40,000 in sponsorships + 200 block seats
• Total annual earnings (Sri Lanka): LKR 3,924,000 (~327,000/month)
• Total annual earnings (India): INR 1,362,000 (~113,000/month) 2. On Target
• Performance: AUD 85,000 in sponsorships + 500 block seats
• Total annual earnings (Sri Lanka): LKR 6,311,000 (~526,000/month)
• Total annual earnings (India): INR 2,045,000 (~170,000/month) 3. Robust Year
• Performance: AUD 150,000 in sponsorships + 1,000 block seats
• Total annual earnings (Sri Lanka): LKR 10,054,000 (~838,000/month)
• Total annual earnings (India): INR 3,116,000 (~260,000/month) 4. Exceptional
• Performance: AUD 250,000 in sponsorships + 2,000 block seats
• Total annual earnings (Sri Lanka): LKR 16,840,000 (~1,403,000/month)
• Total annual earnings (India):
INR 5,057,000 (~421,000/month) Totals assume a mid-band base of LKR 175,000 or INR 70,000 per month. "On target" is a realistic second year for someone good. "Exceptional" is what the ceiling looks like — nobody has done it here yet, which is precisely the opportunity. To make the mechanics concrete:
• A single 50-seat corporate block is worth about LKR 167,000 or INR 48,000 to you — close to a month's base, from one conversation.
• One AUD 30,000 sponsorship is worth about LKR 701,000 or INR 201,000 — four months' base, from one deal.
• There is no cap, no quota ceiling and no sliding scale downwards. The hundredth seat pays the same as the first. Net figures assume an average block seat nets Thinkable around AUD 127 after booking fees, venue costs and the standard group rate; actual net varies by venue, reserve and ticket type. Converted at AUD 1 = LKR 234 / INR 67; commission is calculated in AUD and paid at the prevailing rate. These are illustrations of the structure, not guaranteed income. How We Work — Read This Before Applying
• We do not discount publicly. Value gets added — upgrades, books, access, experiences — rather than price taken away. If you want to discount, you need to make the case.
• We do not chase vanity activity. A thousand cold emails that produce nothing is a worse month than four conversations that produce two closes.
• Your forecast and your CRM have to be the same number. Verbal pipeline that doesn't exist on paper is the fastest way to lose this job.
• Missed meetings and unanswered messages are not survivable here. We are remote and asynchronous, which only works if people are reachable and reliable.
• You will be given room to experiment and to invent your own approach. Talk to us before you launch it, then own it. Reports To Desh Amila, Founder — directly. This Is A Competitive Process We expect well over a hundred applications for one position. Be clear-eyed about that before you spend time on it. There are three rounds, and each one cuts hard: Round 1 — Application : CV and three short answers Round 2 — Practical task : A real sales problem from our business, scored blind against a fixed rubric Round 3 — Interviews : A conversation with the founder, then with the team The task is scored without your name attached, so the only thing that carries you through is the quality of your thinking. A polished CV will not. Nor will an answer that reads like it came out of a chatbot — we have read hundreds of those and they are obvious. If you are the best of the best at this, you will do very well here and we will pay you accordingly. If you are not, this will be a short process. We would rather both of us found that out quickly.
How To Apply
Send your CV and a short note — no more than a page — covering three things:
• One organisational deal you closed: who, what it was worth, how long it took, and the moment it almost fell over.
• Which three types of organisation you would approach first about a Ryan Holiday or Richard Dawkins event in Australia, and the one line you would open with.
• When you can start. Shortlisted applicants receive the practical task and have 48 hours to return it.
