Principal Engineer – Java, Microservices & Payments

Experience:
8–12+ Years Role: Principal Engineer – Backend Engineering Domain: US Banking & Payments Job Summary We are looking for a highly experienced Principal Engineer with robust expertise in Java, microservices architecture, distributed systems, and US payment systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience designing scalable backend platforms for payment processing, including Wire, ACH, and Real-Time Payments (RTP). The candidate should demonstrate robust system design leadership, advanced API integration skills, and expertise in building reliable, secure, high-performance applications.

Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications and microservices using Java and Spring Boot.
• Architect and implement payment processing solutions supporting Wire transfers, ACH, and Real-Time Payments (RTP).
• Lead system design discussions and drive architecture decisions for complex, distributed applications.
• Design advanced REST APIs and microservices, ensuring scalability, security, reliability, and maintainability.
• Develop thread-safe, concurrent, and high-throughput backend processing systems.
• Build event-driven architectures using Kafka or similar messaging platforms.
• Integrate enterprise APIs using IBM API Connect (APIC) or equivalent API management platforms.
• Containerize and deploy applications using Docker and Kubernetes.




• Collaborate with frontend teams using frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.
• Apply spec-driven development practices, translating API specifications and technical designs into implementation.
• Ensure payment processing systems meet requirements for transaction integrity, idempotency, fault tolerance, reconciliation, and auditability.
• Troubleshoot production issues, conduct performance tuning, and establish engineering best practices.
• Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and drive code quality through design reviews and code reviews. Mandatory Technical Skills
• Java & Backend Engineering: Strong hands-on Java development, Spring Boot, and enterprise backend processing.
• US Payment Systems: Practical experience with Wire transfers, ACH, and RTP payment processing.
• API & Microservices Architecture: Advanced REST API design, API integration, and microservices development.
• Distributed Systems: Strong understanding of concurrency, multithreading, thread safety, and high-throughput processing.
• System Design: Ability to lead architecture discussions and design scalable, resilient, highly available systems.
• Event-Driven Architecture: Experience with Kafka or equivalent messaging technologies.
• API Management: Experience with IBM API Connect (APIC) or similar enterprise API management solutions.
• Containerization: Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Frontend Exposure: Familiarity with React, Angular, or Vue.js.
