· Hardware Design Engineer Responsibilities
• Power-stage design — own switching power converters across the group's products: battery chargers, rectifiers, DC-DC stages and inverters for EV, energy-storage and solar applications, from topology selection and simulation through schematic, magnetics and prototype bring-up.
• Schematics and component engineering — schematic capture in Altium Designer or OrCAD, component selection at industrial and automotive grade, derating and worst-case analysis, and a BOM that survives supply-chain reality.
• Battery-system electronics — pre-charge, contactor drive, current sensing, isolation and insulationmonitoring circuits, and the interfaces between the battery management system, the power stage and the rest of the system.
• EMC and product safety — design to the IEC 61000 / CISPR EMC families and to IEC 62477-1, IEC 62619, IEC 62109 and the AIS-156 / ISO 26262 automotive families as each product requires; run pre-compliance in-house and manage certification-lab campaigns.
• Verification — plan and run design-verification tests on the bench (oscilloscope, power analyser, thermal camera, load banks) and write the reports that go into the qualification file.
• DFM and release — drive layout reviews with the PCB designer and the contract manufacturer so boards release right the first time and cost what they were meant to cost.
• Cross-functional design — work with firmware, mechanical and electrical-integration engineers so the electronics, enclosure and control software are designed as one product. What you must have
• Degree — B.
E./B.
Tech in Electrical or Electronics; M.
Tech in Power Electronics is a plus.
• Experience — 4–8 years designing switching power converters above 1 kW (DC-DC, PFC, inverter or battery-charger stages) that reached production.
• Devices and magnetics — hands-on with Si/SiC MOSFETs and IGBTs, gate-drive design, inductor and transformer design, and loss and thermal budgeting.
• Tools — Altium Designer or OrCAD for schematic capture; LTspice, PLECS or PSIM for simulation.
• Standards — working knowledge of IEC 62477-1, IEC 62619 and the IEC 61000 EMC family; you have taken a product through a certification lab.
• Bench skills — comfortable debugging a live power stage with an oscilloscope and differential probes. Positive to have
• GaN or SiC-based designs above 50 kHz; bidirectional or grid-interactive inverter experience (IEC 62109, IS 16221, IEEE 1547 or CEA grid-connectivity regulations).
• Exposure to AIS-156, ISO 26262 or a functional-safety development process (DFMEA, FTA).
• BIS, CE or UL certification experience on a shipping product.
• Python for automated bench testing; Git-based design revision control.
