Senior Product Engineering Lead (Java, Fintech)
Location:
Hyderabad, India About Olea: Olea is a digital infrastructure platform that connects global liquidity with trade and supply chain opportunities, fueling growth and unlocking potential worldwide. Olea has diverse liquidity pools with varying appetite and focuses. Olea’s vision is to connect capital to opportunity. It has a strong conviction in the role of trade to support sustainable economic development across countries, particularly emerging markets, particularly Asia where many smaller suppliers are based. Olea supports suppliers and buyers in over 70 corridors. Role summary: We are looking for a Senior Product Engineering Lead for our Client Journey & Solutioning engineering team, based in our Hyderabad office, to bridge the gap between complex business product lines and highly scalable technology. In this role, you will lead and guide a high-performing engineering team focused on crafting seamless, friction-free client onboarding and transaction workflows for trade finance products, including invoice financing, factoring, and supply chain finance. You will be a hands-on Java technical lead with a product manager’s mindset, closely collaborating with Business teams and the SDET Architect to champion agile methodologies. You will also promote the adoption of AI-assisted engineering workflows, while ensuring that all code, whether human-written or AI-generated, adheres to strict structural guardrails and automated testing standards.
Responsibilities:
· Team Leadership & Product Collaboration: Partner closely with Business Product teams to translate complex invoice financing, factoring, and supply chain finance requirements into intuitive, reliable client journeys and technical solutions.
· Technical Leadership: Act as the technical lead for the team: set architecture and design direction, own design and code reviews, and stay hands-on in the Java codebase to unblock engineers and raise the engineering bar.
· End-to-End Delivery Management: Manage the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) for both existing client-facing and product applications, balancing the ongoing enhancement and stability of the existing production platform with the delivery of new greenfield capabilities. Own backend scalability, automated testing, and production stability, and provide technical direction for the client-facing frontend experience.
· AI-Native Engineering Leadership:
Establish and scale AI-native engineering workflows, leveraging AI coding assistants, automated testing, and structured development guardrails to accelerate delivery velocity while enforcing rigorous engineering discipline, and encourage the team to adopt them.
· Guardrails & Code Integration: Establish and oversee robust code merge gates; ensure that whether code is generated by AI and reviewed by a developer, or written directly by a developer, it strictly passes the automated test suite, security linting, and compliance checks before being merged into the main codebase.
· Technical Mentorship & Culture: Guide, mentor, and pair-program with engineers to uplift the team’s technical capabilities, foster an agile DevOps culture, and continuously optimize CI/CD pipelines.
· Proactive Problem Solving: Take ownership of resolving systemic technical debts, operational bottlenecks, or misalignments between business requirements and technical execution.
· Product & Business Ownership: Draw on your product management experience to guide engineering decisions: understand the business model, client needs and commercial outcomes of each product line, contribute to roadmap and prioritisation, and make trade-offs between scope, value and technical risk. Role specific technical competencies:
· Product & Solution Architecture: Ability to translate complex business processes into scalable technical architectures, customer journeys, APIs, and platform capabilities.
· Core Tech Stack (Java): Solid, hands-on background in the Java stack, including Java 11/17+, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Hibernate/JPA, microservices, REST APIs, event-driven messaging (e.g. Kafka) and relational databases. NodeJS / TypeScript experience is a nice-to-have, not a requirement.
· Backend & Platform Leadership: Proven experience designing and delivering secure, high-throughput, and scalable backend architectures, with the ability to guide the team on client-facing user interfaces and their integration with backend APIs.
· Fintech & Trade Finance Domain Expertise: Mandatory domain experience in Fintech (e.g. payments,
lending, transaction banking or trade finance). Hands-on domain knowledge and engineering experience within supply chain finance frameworks, notably Invoice Financing, Factoring, and Supply Chain Finance workflows, is strongly preferred.
· Client Journey Solutioning: Demonstrated ability to map out complex financial workflows into highly performant, intuitive, and secure client solutions and API integrations.
· Product Management & Business Acumen: Product manager or product owner experience, or equivalent hands-on ownership of a product, with a clear understanding of product strategy, requirements definition, prioritisation and how technology decisions drive business outcomes.
· AI-Native Engineering Proficiency: Solid hands-on experience using AI coding platforms or enterprise AI assistants in day-to-day engineering, and the ability to use them effectively to boost team velocity without compromising architectural integrity, code security, or regulatory compliance.
· Core Software Engineering: Solid systems design patterns, data structures, algorithms, and advanced test automation practices. Qualifications (training, licenses, memberships and certifications):
· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a similar quantitative/engineering discipline.
· 6+ years of Java software engineering experience, within Fintech, transactional banking, or Trade Finance platforms.
· 3-5+ years leading engineering teams, with a proven track record of managing technical teams in these domains.
· Strong background in Java-based product engineering, with the ability to lead technically while remaining hands-on.
· Mandatory domain experience in Fintech.
· Product manager or product owner experience (or equivalent hands-on product ownership), with a clear understanding of product and business.
· Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants in software delivery. Note: Olea is committed to diversity and inclusion. By providing equal opportunities we foster a work environment which embraces diversity and gets the best out of the broadest spectrum of people to sustain business performance and competitive advantage. We build an inclusive culture by demonstrating respect for each other’s unique strengths and perspectives to enable every employee to develop a sense of belonging and have the opportunity to maximise their potential.
