Position Overview Mainframe Functional Tester – Tribe Pay (IPIS) joins the IPCCIB squad within the Payments business area of BNP Paribas Fortis. Working in an agile, virtual, and internationally distributed team, you will perform functional testing of COBOL‑based payment applications, from requirements definition through end‑to‑end test execution, while ensuring high‑quality standards and close collaboration with business, functional analysts and developers. Job Responsibilities
• Define and elaborate the test strategy for functional and technical changes, providing effort estimates and planning test activities.
• Identify, design and maintain test cases, prepare the required data sets, and ensure comprehensive test coverage across the application landscape with an end‑to‑end view.
• Execute manual functional tests, report progress and results in a structured manner, and communicate clearly with squad members and external stakeholders.
• Seek opportunities to automate repetitive test conditions and, where feasible, implement test automation using appropriate tools.
• Participate in integration and functional acceptance testing to guarantee the quality of new functionalities and enhancements.
• Document test cases and test artefacts to enable future reuse and knowledge transfer.
• Manage dependencies with other teams or divisions, coordinating efforts to maintain consistent test coverage.
• Actively engage in squad ceremonies (daily huddles, sprint planning, retrospectives) and align work with squad priorities. Required Education, Skills, AND Experience (MUST‑HAVE)
• Bachelor’s degree in IT,



Computer Science, Engineering, Finance or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
• Minimum 7 years of experience in functional testing, preferably on mainframe systems and COBOL applications.
• Strong knowledge of SQL for data‑validation and test‑data preparation.
• Proven ability to design, execute and document manual test cases; experience with test‑automation concepts is essential.
• Proficiency with Agile/Scrum methodologies and active participation in agile ceremonies.
• Excellent written and spoken English, enabling effective collaboration with international peers.
• Robust analytical mindset, attention to detail, and proactive communication skills. Preferred Education, Skills, AND Experience (NICE‑TO‑HAVE)
• Hands‑on experience with test‑automation tools (e.g., Octane, Rally) and test‑reporting solutions.
• Familiarity with Agile testing tools and environments such as Octane or Rally.
• Prior experience in the Payments domain and knowledge of banking products.
• Additional certifications or training in testing (e.g., ISTQB) or mainframe technologies.
