VTL MACHINE OPERATOR Position Details Position: VTL Machine Operator Department: Production / Machine Shop Reporting To: Production Supervisor / Machine Shop In-Charge

25 Years Employment Type: Full time Job Purpose To operate Vertical Turret Lathe (VTL) machines safely and efficiently, ensuring components are machined as per drawings, specifications, quality standards, and production targets.

Key Responsibilities

- Operate and monitor VTL machines for machining of various components.
- Set and operate the machine as per production requirements and job specifications.
- Read and understand engineering drawings, machining drawings, and work instructions.
- Perform machine setting, tool selection, tool offset adjustment, and tool changing.
- Ensure correct loading, unloading, and proper alignment of components on the machine.
- Check dimensions using measuring instruments such as Vernier Caliper, Micrometer, Bore Gauge, Dial Gauge, and other inspection tools.
- Maintain required dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and tolerance as per drawing.
- Monitor machining parameters such as speed, feed, depth of cut, and cutting conditions.
- Identify tool wear, abnormal machine conditions, and machining defects and take corrective action.
- Coordinate with the Quality and Production teams for first-piece and in-process inspection.
- Maintain production records, inspection reports, and machine-related documents.
- Achieve daily/monthly production targets while maintaining quality standards.
- Follow safety procedures, PPE requirements, and standard operating procedures.




- Maintain 5S and cleanliness around the machine and work area.
- Carry out basic machine maintenance and report breakdowns or abnormalities to the maintenance team.
- Minimize rejection, rework, tool consumption, and machine downtime.
- Follow company policies related to quality, safety, discipline, and productivity. Required Skills
- Good knowledge of VTL machine operation and machining processes.
- Knowledge of turning, facing, boring, grooving, drilling, and other machining operations.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of cutting tools, inserts, tool geometry, and tool life.
- Knowledge of machining parameters and cutting conditions.
- Good knowledge of measuring instruments and dimensional inspection.
- Basic knowledge of CNC/VTL controls is an advantage.
- Ability to identify machining defects and take necessary corrective action.
- Good understanding of workplace safety and 5S practices.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team. Educational Qualification
- ITI Fitter / Turner / Machinist preferred.
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering will be an added advantage. Experience
- 25 years of relevant experience in VTL machine operation.
- Experience in heavy engineering, automotive, fabrication, casting, forging, or machining industries will be preferred.
- Candidates with experience in CNC/VTL machine operation and setting will be given preference. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
