Position Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and result-oriented Data Scientist with hands-on experience in
metals, mining, or process manufacturing digitalization to join our team at our aluminum
smelter/plant in Jharsuguda, Odisha.
In this role, you will lead an initial 6-to-7-week diagnostic engagement focused on mapping
plant-floor data streams, evaluating current analytics maturity, and identifying high-value
digitalization use cases across operational processes (e.g., reduction potlines, casthouse,
carbon plant, or energy optimization). A successful diagnostic phase could open up a long-term
contract opportunity (~1 year) to execute and scale the recommended analytical solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnostic & Chance Mapping: Conduct end-to-end data diagnostics across plant
operations to identify bottlenecks, data gaps, and quick-win analytics opportunities.
Data Integration & Analysis: Work with structured and unstructured operational data
from SCADA, PLC, MES, ERP, and IoT systems to generate actionable insights.
Use Case Development: Build baseline predictive models, descriptive dashboards, and
statistical process control (SPC)



tools tailored to aluminum manufacturing KPIs (e.g.,
specific energy consumption, current efficiency, metal purity, equipment reliability).
Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate closely with plant operations, process
engineering, and IT/OT teams on the ground in Jharsuguda to validate findings and build
actionable operational roadmaps.

Strategic Deliverables: Present diagnostic findings and a prioritized 1-year digitalization
roadmap to plant management at the conclusion of the 67 week engagement.
Key Requirements & Qualifications
Experience: 24 years of experience in data analytics, data engineering, or industrial
data science.
Domain Knowledge: Prior experience working in plant environments within the Metals,
Mining, or Heavy Process Manufacturing industry (Aluminum, Steel, or Smelter
experience is strongly preferred).
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Python or R for statistical analysis and modeling.
Experience with SQL and database query engines.
Hands-on expertise with BI and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
Familiarity with industrial data systems (SCADA, MES, Industrial IoT, Historians
like OSISoft PI).
Location & Presence: Based in or willing to work on-site at the plant in Jharsuguda,
Odisha for the full duration of the contract.
Soft Skills: Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and the ability to effectively
communicate technical insights to non-technical plant operators and leadership.
