We are looking for a Senior SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to own, scale, and optimize our mission-critical Microsoft SQL Server database environments. While you will manage core DBA tasks like high availability, backups, and security, the core mandate of this role is proactive and reactive performance tuning, deep query optimization, and architectural scaling to handle high-throughput production workloads.
You will work closely with software engineering, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to squash bottlenecks, tune execution plans, and ensure our databases run at peak efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
SQL Server Administration & Operations
• Instance Management: Install, configure, patch, and upgrade SQL Server instances (SQL Server 2016 through 2022 / Azure SQL) across production, staging, and development environments.
• High Availability & Disaster Recovery (HA/DR): Architect, test, and maintain Always On Availability Groups (AG), Failover Cluster Instances (FCI), log shipping, and replication.
• Backup & Recovery: Design and validate enterprise backup strategies ; conduct routine restore and failover drills.
• Security & Hardening: Enforce database security best practices, TDE (Transparent Data Encryption), role-based access control (RBAC), auditing, and compliance standards
• Capacity Planning: Monitor database growth trends, CPU/memory usage,
and storage allocation to forecast hardware or cloud infrastructure needs.
• Mastery of T-SQL, query profiling, and advanced performance troubleshooting tools (Query Store, Extended Events, SQL Server Profiler, SSMS, DMVs).
• Track record of tuning large databases and resolving severe locking, blocking, and CPU/memory pressure.
• Deep hands-on experience with Always On Availability Groups, Clustering, and Replication.
Performance Optimization & Tuning
• Query & Index Tuning: Analyze and optimize complex T-SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and views to slash execution times and resource consumption.
• Execution Plan Analysis: Deep-dive into graphical execution plans, Query Store, Agile Management Views (DMVs), and Dynamic Management Functions (DMFs) to diagnose performance degradation.
• Index Strategy: Design, rebuild, re-organize, and maintain intelligent indexing strategies to minimize fragmentation and IOPS overhead.
• Wait Statistics & Diagnostics: Diagnose server-level bottlenecks using wait stats, latch/lock contention analysis, and blocking/deadlock troubleshooting.
• Resource Governance & Configuration: Tune SQL Server memory, tempDB, max worker threads, and I/O subsystem configurations at the OS and storage levels.
