About 1838

1838 is a cultural platform and community for creative entrepreneurs and cultural tastemakers. Its space, magazine, events and media bring people and ideas together, extending the creative life of the community beyond the physical space.

The Chance:

The Videographer will create compelling visual stories for 1838 across its video podcast, cultural programming, community and digital channels. The role combines hands-on filming, editing and post-production with a strong visual sensibility to capture the people, ideas and cultural moments that define 1838. You will be working closely with Editorial, events and community teams, contributors, external creative partners and relevant commercial stakeholders.

What You Will Do:

1. Video Storytelling & Production

- Shoot and edit content featuring creative entrepreneurs, artists, designers, filmmakers and cultural producers, as well as exhibitions, performances, events and community stories.
- Translate creative briefs into engaging visual narratives, leveraging conventional and AI-enabled tools to enhance visual quality, storytelling and production efficiency.
- Develop a distinctive visual language that reflects 1838’s premium, culturally curious positioning and respects the character of its heritage space.

2. Video Podcast & Conversations

- Manage end-to-end video podcast production, from shoot planning and setup to filming, AI-assisted editing and final delivery.
- Capture authentic, engaging conversations that allow participants’ ideas and perspectives to lead.
- Produce polished long-form episodes and AI-assisted short-form edits for digital distribution, retaining the substance of the original conversations.

3. Events, Space & Community

- Capture the atmosphere and substance of curated events, exhibitions, salons, performances and other cultural programming.
- Create visual content that brings the 1838 space, its heritage architecture and community to life, using AI tools where appropriate.
- Identify emerging stories and collaborations within the community, and support selected off-site experiences as 1838 expands.

4. Editing & Multi-Platform Delivery

- Manage post-production, including editing, colour correction, sound, graphics, captions and AI-enabled enhancements.
- Adapt content for social and digital channels, the website, magazine extensions, newsletters and event screens, using AI-assisted workflows to scale content across formats.
- Maintain an organised library of footage, project files, AI-generated assets, permissions and final outputs for efficient retrieval and reuse.

5. Creative Collaboration & Production Management

- Work with the Creative Head and editorial team to plan video content aligned with the magazine, events calendar and wider 1838 narrative, exploring innovative AI-enabled formats.
- Manage shoot logistics, equipment, schedules, locations and external production support, leveraging AI tools to streamline workflows where appropriate.
- Deliver approved partnership content in line with agreed briefs while maintaining 1838’s creative and editorial standards.

6. Tools & Responsible Production

- Apply AI-enabled video generation, editing and post-production tools to explore creative possibilities and improve quality, speed and efficiency.
- Ensure appropriate permissions, releases and copyright compliance, safeguarding the authenticity and integrity of contributors, stories and AI-generated content.

What You Bring:

- 6 to 8 years of hands-on experience in videography, filmmaking or digital video production, supported by a strong showreel or portfolio.
- Proven ability to film and edit interviews, conversations,

cultural content, events or branded storytelling from brief to final delivery, using conventional and AI-assisted workflows.
- Strong practical skills in camera operation, lighting, sound recording, editing and post-production, complemented by hands-on experience with AI video tools.
- Experience creating content for digital and social platforms; exposure to art, design, culture, architecture, fashion, film or premium media is an advantage.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted video generation, editing and content repurposing tools is a must.

Desired Competencies

- Visual storytelling: Strong eye for composition, light, movement, detail and atmosphere, with the ability to combine live-action and AI-generated visuals effectively.
- Editorial sensitivity: Curiosity about people and ideas, with the judgement to capture stories authentically and assess AI-generated content critically.
- Production craft: Proficiency in filming, sound, editing and post-production, including AI-enabled workflows.
- Cultural fluency: Interest in contemporary culture and the creative economy.
- Collaboration and adaptability: Ability to work across editorial, programming, community and commercial teams.
- Ownership and organisation: Effective shoot planning, asset management and timely delivery, using technology to streamline workflows.
- Experimentation: Openness to emerging AI tools and formats while maintaining a coherent visual identity and editorial integrity.

Education:

A degree, diploma or relevant training in film, cinematography, media production, visual communication or a related field is desirable. Practical capability and portfolio quality will carry significant weight.

Equal Opportunity:
