Dentulu is a US-based teledentistry and dental technology platform serving 700+ providers across all 50 US states. We build products for patients, dental practices, DSOs and physicians: telehealth, practice tools, AI assistants, voice transcription, sleep apnea care, and more. Our engineering is run from Madurai, and we ship production software used by US healthcare providers every day.

The role

We’re hiring Tech Leads to own the design and delivery of new products and services end to end. You’ll lead a small team, make architecture decisions, review code, and stay hands-on. Most new work is in Python. Our core legacy platform is PHP, so knowing PHP is a strong plus because many new services integrate with it.

What you’ll do

- Lead a team of engineers: plan work, break down features, review code, unblock people
- Design and build services in FastAPI with PostgreSQL, Celery/Redis, and React front ends
- Own a product from design to production: sign-up, auth, dashboards, APIs, deployments
- Integrate new services with our legacy PHP (CodeIgniter/MySQL) platform
- Build AI-powered features using LLMs: assistants, summarization, transcription pipelines
- Set engineering standards: validation on client and server, structured logging everywhere,



git-based deployments, no hotfixing on production
- Work with US-based leadership on scope, timelines and trade-offs
- Mentor developers and raise the bar on code quality

Must have

- 7+ years of backend development, with strong Python (FastAPI)
- Solid SQL and data modelling experience (PostgreSQL and/or MySQL)
- Experience building and consuming REST APIs, background jobs and queues
- Experience leading or mentoring a team and owning delivery
- Comfortable with Linux, Nginx, Docker and AWS (EC2, RDS, S3)
- Clear written and spoken English for working with a US team

Strong plus

- PHP, especially CodeIgniter or Laravel, and experience modernizing legacy codebases
- React (Vite) front-end experience
- Working with LLM APIs (Claude, OpenAI, AWS Bedrock), RAG, or speech-to-text
- Healthcare software experience and awareness of HIPAA, data privacy and security
- Integrations such as Twilio, SendGrid, payment gateways, or third-party health APIs
