Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced SAP HR ABAP Consultant with strong hands-on expertise in SAP HCM technical objects, payroll cluster structures, HR data extraction, and ABAP code analysis.

The primary responsibility is to analyze, debug, reverse-engineer, and document existing custom ABAP logic used in SAP HR extraction processes. The consultant will translate technical code into clear, understandable business rules to support data mapping and migration activities.

This is an analysis-heavy role focused on existing code, documentation, and validation rather than current development.

Key Responsibilities

- Analyze and debug standard and custom ABAP code used in SAP HR data extraction processes.
- Examine user exits, BAdIs, enhancement implementations, and custom function modules associated with standard HR extractors.
- Analyze HR extraction enhancements, including EXIT_SAPLRSAP_001/002/003/004 and RSU5_SAPI_BADI.
- Reverse-engineer custom Z-extractors built using SAP HR infotype tables and HR logical databases.
- Analyze payroll cluster read logic to extract and interpret payroll results from structures such as RT, BT, CRT, and WPBP.
- Trace ABAP-based BW transformation routines, including start routines, end routines, expert routines, and rule routines.
- Translate embedded ABAP logic into clear, documented business rules for data mapping files.
- Trace extracted fields back to their source infotypes, subtypes, and custom Z-infotypes.




- Work closely with SAP BW consultants and SAP HR functional consultants to explain existing code logic and validate business rules.
- Extract sample data through debugging or test reports, wherever required, to verify that documented logic matches actual system output.
- Prepare detailed technical documentation and mapping specifications for migration and data transformation activities.

Mandatory Technical Skills
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on SAP ABAP development experience, with strong expertise in SAP HR/HCM technical objects.
- Strong experience in reading, analyzing, debugging, and documenting existing ABAP code.
- Hands-on experience with SAP HR data extraction, enhancement implementations, and custom extractors.
- Good understanding of SAP HR infotypes, including PA0000–PA9999 and custom Z-infotypes.
- Experience with HR logical databases such as PNP and PNPCE, including GET PERNR and PROVIDE processing logic.
- Working knowledge of SAP payroll cluster structures, including PCL1/PCL2, cluster IDs, and payroll result tables such as RT, BT, CRT, and WPBP.
- Familiarity with payroll cluster read techniques, including RP-IMP-* macros and READ CLUSTER statements, as applicable.
- Experience with SAP BW extraction enhancements, including user exits and BAdIs.
- Ability to analyze ABAP-based BW transformation routines, including start, end, expert, and rule routines.




- Proficiency in using the ABAP debugger and relevant tracing and troubleshooting transactions.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical documentation skills.
- Ability to explain complex ABAP logic in clear, business-friendly language.

Good-to-Have Skills
- Experience supporting SAP BW-to-cloud data warehouse migration projects.
- Previous experience in ABAP code reverse engineering for data migration, extraction, or transformation initiatives.
- Exposure to country-specific payroll logic, including US payroll structures and country-specific cluster equivalents.
- Experience validating extraction results and documenting source-to-target mapping rules.
- Prior experience working with SAP HR functional and BW teams on data migration projects.

Experience Requirements
- 7+ years of overall SAP ABAP experience preferred.
- At least 2–3 years of hands-on experience with SAP HR/HCM technical objects, payroll cluster programming, HR extraction enhancements, or infotype-level custom development.
- Candidates with strong HR ABAP analysis and debugging experience will be preferred over candidates focused primarily on new development.

Ideal Candidate Profile The ideal candidate should be comfortable analyzing complex, existing SAP HR ABAP programs, tracing payroll and employee data extraction logic, and documenting the findings in clear mapping specifications. Strong written communication and the ability to collaborate with SAP BW and HR functional teams are essential. Note: General SAP ABAP experience alone is not sufficient. Candidates must have relevant SAP HR/HCM technical experience, particularly in payroll clusters, infotypes, and HR data extraction logic.
