About the role -

Aroha Early Learning Community is a progressive, play-based early learning space preparing to open in Action Area 1, New Town, Kolkata. We believe childhood deserves time, space, freedom and respect, and we see children as capable, curious and full of potential.

We’re looking for thoughtful, empathetic and enthusiastic Early Childhood Educators to join our founding team in a full-time role. As one of our first educators, you will help build a preschool from the ground up, contributing to the culture, curriculum and learning environment of a current school while growing alongside a team committed to meaningful early childhood education.

Success in this role looks like children who feel safe, seen and free to explore; families who feel connected to and informed about their child’s learning; and a classroom practice that grows through observation, reflection and collaboration. Educators sit at the heart of Aroha. Your everyday work with children will shape how our philosophy comes to life.

Responsibilities

- Plan and facilitate play-based learning experiences that respond to children’s interests, questions and developmental needs
- Create safe, welcoming environments that encourage exploration, independence and discovery
- Observe and document children’s experiences, learning and development
- Build warm, respectful relationships with children and communicate thoughtfully with families
- Collaborate with colleagues to plan classes,



reflect on practice and develop the curriculum
- Contribute to the everyday life of the school and help shape Aroha’s approach to learning

Qualifications

- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Genuine curiosity about how young children learn, think, communicate and experience the world
- Respect for children as capable individuals, including their agency, ideas and perspectives
- A proactive, dependable, resourceful and thoughtful approach to work
- Empathy, patience, strong observation skills and openness to reflection and learning
- Enjoyment of collaboration, sharing ideas and reflecting on one’s own practice
- A background in early childhood education or a related field is an advantage, as is familiarity with progressive, play-based approaches
- Experience or training in the mental health field is preferred
- A specialisation in the creative arts (such as visual arts, music, movement, drama or expressive arts) is preferred

- You don’t need to have followed a conventional path into education to apply. We welcome people from diverse backgrounds who are passionate about childhood and eager to deepen their understanding of early learning. For us, empathy, initiative, work ethic, openness to reflection and a willingness to learn matter just as much as existing knowledge and experience.
