About Contemporary School Modern School, Aliganj, is an IB World School in Lucknow, founded in 1979.

We offer
the IB Primary Years Programme from Nursery to Grade 5, school-designed bridging years in Grades 6–8, and ICSE/ISC in Grades 9–12. We call ourselves The Emotionally Safe School of Lucknow — and a school can only be emotionally safe for children if it is emotionally safe, fair and well-run for the adults who teach them. The Role We are creating our first dedicated people leadership role. The Head of People & Culture will own everything to do with attracting, developing and keeping great teachers and staff — and will build the systems, policies and culture that make Modern School a place where strong educators want to work and stay. This is a hands-on role: you will set up much of the HR function from first principles and run it day to day.

Key Responsibilities
• Own recruitment end-to-end for teaching and non-teaching roles: workforce planning, job briefs, sourcing, screening, demo lessons, interviews and offers
• Build our employer brand and talent pipeline, including the careers page, referrals and relationships with B.

• Run safe hiring: reference checks, background and police verification, and child-safeguarding commitments for every staff member
• Design and run onboarding and induction, so new teachers understand our IB and CISCE programmes and our emotionally safe ways of working from day one
• Coordinate the professional development calendar,



including IB training, with the Principal and programme coordinators
• Set up and run a fair performance management system — goals, classroom observations, appraisals and growth plans — together with academic leadership
• Own HR policies, the staff handbook, leave and attendance, and employee records; maintain a simple HR system
• Ensure statutory compliance: PF, ESI, gratuity, labour law requirements and the POSH Internal Committee
• Coordinate payroll inputs and compensation reviews with the accounts team
• Lead staff wellbeing, engagement surveys, grievance handling and exit interviews; track and report retention, attrition and hiring metrics to the Director What We're Looking For
• 6–10 years of HR experience, ideally including a generalist or HR-lead role; experience in schools or education strongly preferred
• Hands-on recruitment experience, and the judgement to assess teaching quality alongside academic leaders
• Working knowledge of Indian labour law and statutory compliance
• Fair, discreet and approachable — someone staff trust with difficult conversations
• Organised and comfortable with data; able to build simple trackers and report on people metrics
• Genuine belief that great schools are built by well-supported teachers Details
