Role Summary

The Shift Supervisor runs the Solvay Process plant during an assigned shift, making sure soda ash (sodium carbonate) and calcium chloride production targets are met safely, efficiently, and at the right cost. As the main point of contact on shift, the Shift Supervisor leads DCS operators and field operators, solves process problems, and coordinates with other departments to keep the plant running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

Shift leadership and coordination

Supervise and lead DCS operators, field operators, and support staff throughout the shift.

Plan and coordinate shift activities to meet production targets and operational goals.

Production oversight

Monitor production so the plant operates within defined limits for quality, safety, and efficiency.

Adjust processes and equipment as needed to keep performance on target.

Troubleshooting and problem resolution

Diagnose and resolve process and equipment issues quickly during the shift.

Apply temporary solutions to limit downtime and escalate major problems to maintenance or engineering.

Safety and compliance

Make sure every person on shift follows safety protocols, wears the right PPE, and complies with environmental regulations.

Conduct safety audits, enforce compliance, and lead safety drills.

Shift handover

Run thorough handovers covering ongoing issues, production figures, and equipment status.

Give the incoming shift everything it needs to continue without interruption.

Performance and reporting

Track and report KPIs such as production rates, raw material usage, downtime, and safety incidents.

Keep accurate records and report to the Operation Director on time.





Process improvement and team development

Identify process improvements and work with engineering and operations to put best practices in place.

Mentor and train operators in plant operations, safety, and troubleshooting.

Qualifications

Required

High school diploma or equivalent; a technical or vocational qualification in process operations, chemical engineering, or industrial engineering preferred.

Minimum 5–7 years in a chemical or industrial plant, including at least 2–3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.

Proven experience managing shift teams in a quick-paced production environment.

Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred

Strong knowledge of the Solvay process for soda ash and calcium chloride production.

Leadership training or a supervisory certification.

Experience with DCS-controlled continuous process plants.

Working Conditions

The role moves between the control room and plant areas, with exposure to noise, heat, dust, and chemical hazards. Appropriate PPE is mandatory in the process area. The role requires rotating 8- or 12-hour shifts and occasional overtime during shutdowns or abnormal situations.

Overseas assignment: Saudi Arabia. Recruitment and interviews in Gujarat.
