1. Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced and technically competent Senior Engineer with a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in the operation, maintenance, and performance optimization of a Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant.

The candidate must have practical experience in running a CBG plant, including biogas production through anaerobic digestion, biogas purification and upgrading, gas compression, and CBG storage or dispensing systems. The selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring safe, reliable, and effective plant operations, maintaining product gas quality, troubleshooting operational issues, and achieving production targets.

Candidates with direct hands-on experience in operating a commercial-scale CBG/Bio-CNG plant will be given preference.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. CBG Plant Operations

- Independently operate and monitor the complete CBG plant, from feedstock reception to final compressed biogas production.
- Manage anaerobic digesters, feedstock preparation, slurry handling, and biological process parameters.
- Monitor biogas generation, methane concentration, gas flow, pressure, temperature, pH, and other critical process parameters.
- Operate and monitor biogas upgrading and purification systems, such as membrane separation, PSA, water scrubbing, or other applicable technologies.
- Manage gas compression, drying, storage, and cascade filling systems, wherever applicable.
- Ensure that the produced CBG meets applicable customer specifications and relevant regulatory requirements.

B. Plant Maintenance and Troubleshooting

- Plan and execute preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of plant equipment.
- Troubleshoot issues involving digesters, agitators, pumps, blowers, compressors, gas dryers, purification units, valves, and instrumentation.
- Identify the root causes of low gas production, methane losses,



equipment failures, and process instability.
- Coordinate with OEMs, service engineers, and equipment suppliers for technical support and maintenance.

C. Process Optimization and Production

- Monitor daily biogas and CBG production, methane recovery, plant efficiency, and equipment availability.
- Optimize feedstock mix, organic loading, retention time, and other biological parameters in coordination with laboratory or process teams.
- Reduce methane losses, energy consumption, unplanned shutdowns, and operating costs.
- Maintain daily production logs, shift reports, equipment performance records, and consumption data.
- Implement corrective actions to achieve production targets and improve plant performance.

D. Safety and Compliance

- Ensure compliance with plant safety procedures, operating protocols, and applicable environmental and statutory requirements.
- Implement safe operating practices for high-pressure gas systems, compressors, gas storage, and flammable gas handling.
- Monitor gas leak detection systems, emergency shutdown systems, pressure relief devices, and other safety equipment.
- Conduct safety inspections, toolbox talks, risk assessments, and emergency preparedness drills as required.

E. Team and Vendor Coordination

- Supervise plant operators, technicians, and maintenance personnel.
- Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, process, and utility teams.
- Manage spare parts, consumables, maintenance schedules, and operating inventories.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports for management.

3. Educational Qualifications

- B.E./B.Tech. or Diploma in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Additional training or certification in biogas, Bio-CNG/CBG, gas processing,



or industrial plant operations will be an advantage.

4. Mandatory Experience and Technical Skills

- Minimum 5 years of relevant industrial experience, with hands-on experience in operating and maintaining a Compressed Biogas (CBG)/Bio-CNG plant.
- Strong understanding of anaerobic digestion and biogas production processes.
- Practical knowledge of biogas upgrading methane enrichment, H₂S removal, moisture removal, and gas purification.
- Experience in operating high-pressure gas compressors, gas dryers, storage systems, and cascade filling systems, as applicable.
- Knowledge of process instrumentation, PLC/SCADA systems, plant utilities, and equipment troubleshooting.
- Ability to analyze plant performance data and implement process improvements.
- Good understanding of industrial safety practices and high-pressure gas handling.

5. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

- Achievement of daily and monthly CBG production targets.
- Consistent product gas quality and methane recovery.
- Plant availability and operational reliability.
- Reduction in unplanned downtime and maintenance costs.
- Effective energy and feedstock utilization.
- Compliance with safety, environmental, and quality requirements.

6. Preferred Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate should be a practical, hands-on engineer who has independently operated or played a key role in running a commercial CBG plant. Candidates whose experience is limited to design, consultancy, construction, or installation without actual plant-operating experience may not be suitable for this position.
