Job Summary

The VMC Setter is responsible for setting up and preparing Vertical Machining Centre (VMC) machines for production, including fixture setting, tool setting, program loading, offset adjustment, and ensuring components are machined according to engineering drawings and quality standards.

2. Key Responsibilities

Set up VMC machines for different machining operations as per production requirements.

Read and interpret engineering drawings, component drawings, and machining specifications.

Load CNC programs and make necessary program adjustments when authorized.

Perform tool setting, tool length measurement, and tool offset corrections.

Set and align workpieces, fixtures, and machine vices accurately.

Set work offsets such as G54, G55, and other work coordinate systems.

Select appropriate cutting tools, inserts, speeds, feeds, and machining parameters.

Conduct first-piece inspection and ensure dimensional accuracy.

Monitor machining operations and correct setting-related issues.

Use measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and height gauges.

Coordinate with CNC operators, quality inspectors, programmers, and production supervisors.





Maintain machine cleanliness and follow preventive maintenance requirements.

Follow safety procedures and maintain 5S standards in the workplace.

Minimize tool breakage, rejection, and machine downtime.

3. Required Technical Skills

Practical experience in VMC machine setting and operation.

Knowledge of CNC controls such as Fanuc, Siemens, or Mitsubishi.

Understanding of G-codes and M-codes.

Knowledge of tool offsets and work offsets.

Ability to read engineering drawings and understand GD&T.;

Knowledge of cutting tools, fixtures, and machining processes.

Experience with precision measuring instruments.

Knowledge of aluminium, steel, cast iron, or other engineering materials.

4. Educational Qualification

ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.

Relevant hands-on experience in CNC/VMC setting preferred.

5. Experience

Junior VMC Setter: 1–2 years of experience.

Experienced VMC Setter: 3–5 years of experience.

Senior VMC Setter: 5+ years of experience, with robust troubleshooting and setting capabilities.

Pay: ₹18,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
