2. Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Senior Engineer – Estimation (Irrigation) to support the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for irrigation projects, canal systems, lift irrigation schemes, water conveyance systems, reservoirs and associated infrastructure.

The candidate will be responsible for quantity estimation, preparation of Bills of Quantities (BOQs), cost estimation, rate analysis, and preparation of project cost summaries based on engineering drawings, design calculations, technical specifications and applicable Schedule of Rates (SOR). The role involves coordination with civil, hydraulic, mechanical and other engineering teams to ensure accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for irrigation infrastructure projects.

4. Key Roles and Responsibilities

● Prepare detailed quantity take-offs,



BOQs and cost estimates for irrigation and water resources infrastructure projects.

● Calculate quantities for canals, distributaries, minors, field channels, embankments and associated irrigation structures.

● Prepare estimates for excavation, earthwork, embankment filling, lining, concrete works, reinforcement, masonry and other construction activities.

● Estimate quantities and costs for headworks, canal falls, cross-drainage works, regulators, escapes, outlets, aqueducts, siphons, and culverts.

● Prepare estimates for lift irrigation systems, pumping stations, rising mains, delivery chambers, and associated mechanical equipment in coordination with the design team.

● Develop item-wise cost estimates based on applicable SORs, market rates, vendor quotations, and project-specific specifications.

● Carry out rate analysis for non-schedule items using prevailing material, labour, equipment, and transportation rates.

● Prepare abstract estimates, detailed cost statements, and project-wise cost summaries for inclusion in DPRs.

● Incorporate applicable taxes, duties, contingencies, establishment charges, and other cost components as per client requirements and prescribed estimation guidelines

● Refer to applicable State Water Resources Department, Irrigation Department, PWD, CPWD, or other prescribed SORs, as specified by the client.

● Prepare rate analysis for non-schedule items, including materials, labour, machinery, transportation, and construction methodology.

● Obtain and evaluate vendor quotations for pipes, pumps, motors, gates, valves, and other mechanical equipment.

● Prepare Excel-based quantity calculation sheets, BOQs, abstract estimates, and comparative cost statements.

● Maintain supporting calculations, rate analysis sheets, measurement records, and cost assumptions.

● Review engineering drawings and specifications to identify omissions, discrepancies, and quantity variations.





● Ensure consistency of estimation documents with applicable project guidelines, measurement practices, and client requirements.

5. Educational Qualifications

● BE / B.Tech in Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university or institution.

● Candidates with additional training in quantity surveying, estimation, costing, irrigation engineering, or water resources engineering will be preferred

6. Experience and Technical Skills

● Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in estimation, costing, BOQ preparation, or quantity surveying for irrigation, canal, water resources, or infrastructure projects.

● Experience in preparing estimates for DPRs, feasibility reports, tender documents, or detailed engineering assignments is preferred.

● Practical knowledge of earthwork calculations, canal quantities, concrete works, hydraulic structures, and rate analysis.

● Exposure to government irrigation projects and SOR-based estimation is desirable.

● Experience in lift irrigation schemes, pumping systems, or pipeline-based irrigation projects will be an added advantage.
