- A Sourcing Engineer bridges the gap between engineering and procurement. They use technical expertise to evaluate, select, and manage suppliers, ensuring that parts and materials meet quality, cost, and delivery requirements. Key Responsibilities • Technical Sourcing & RFQs: Interpret engineering drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and technical specs to build Request for Quotations (RFQs). • Supplier Evaluation & Audits: Assess supplier manufacturing capabilities, quality systems (such as ISO/IATF), machinery, and capacity. • Cost Estimation & Modeling: Create "should-cost" models based on raw materials, machining hours, labor, and overhead to challenge supplier quotes. • Commercial Negotiation: Negotiate pricing, lead times, contracts, payment terms, and tooling/NRE (Non-Recurring Engineering) costs. • New Product Development (NPD / NPI):



Partner with R&D; and design teams early in the product lifecycle to source compliant, scalable components. • Risk & Supply Chain Mitigation: Identify single-source vulnerabilities, build backup suppliers, and resolve quality or delivery bottlenecks. • ERP & Data Management: Track orders, inventory, and supplier KPIs using systems like SAP or Microsoft Dynamics.
