Key Responsibilities:
Cloud data architecture
- Design data architectures on AWS using purpose-built services: Aurora and RDS (PostgreSQL, MySQL), DynamoDB, ElastiCache, Redshift and an S3-based data lake with Glue, Athena and Lake Formation.
- Select the right engine per workload on performance, resilience and cost; publish reference architectures and database standards.
- Plan and execute migrations from SQL Server, Oracle and self-managed MySQL to Aurora and RDS using AWS DMS and SCT.
- Design data integration with SaaS and line-of-business systems: CDC, event streams (Kinesis, MSK) and APIs.
Database operations and resilience
- Own availability, performance and capacity of production databases; lead P1 database incident response.
- Run high availability and DR: Multi-AZ, Aurora Global Database, cross-region replicas, AWS Backup and point-in-time recovery across the Mumbai and Hyderabad regions.
- Tune performance using Performance Insights, Enhanced Monitoring, execution plans and indexing.
- Plan patching and major version upgrades with minimal downtime, using blue/green deployments where supported.
Automation, security and cost
- Provision and change databases as code (Terraform or CloudFormation) with versioned schema pipelines
- Enforce encryption (KMS), secret rotation (Secrets Manager),
IAM database authentication, least privilege and audit logging.
- Apply data protection controls for ISO 27001 and the DPDP Act 2023, including masking of non-production data.
- Drive database FinOps: rightsizing, Graviton instances, Savings Plans or reserved capacity and storage tiering.
Leadership and collaboration
- Mentor and develop the Junior DBA as trained backup for routine operations.
- Partner with application, development and analytics teams on data models and query design.
- Manage AWS support cases and database vendor relationships.
Skills and Experience:
Essential

- AWS data services: DynamoDB, Redshift, S3, Glue, Athena and DMS.
- Migration of SQL Server or Oracle workloads to open-source engines on AWS.
- Infrastructure-as-Code and scripting in Python or Bash.
- Strong SQL, data modelling and performance diagnostics.
Advantageous
- Streaming and CDC (Kinesis, MSK).
- Data warehouse and lakehouse design for reporting and analytics.
- Airline, travel or other high-volume transactional systems
Qualifications and Certifications
- B.E. / B.Tech or MCA in Computer Science or IT.
- Required: AWS Certified Data Engineer – Associate, or AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate with equivalent data platform experience.
