Role Title: Senior Engineering Manager, Platform Engineering

Position Summary:

The Senior Engineering Manager leads day-to-day application development and platform engineering, directly manages engineering talent, and drives consistent delivery across technology and business partners. The role provides people leadership , technical direction, resolves complex delivery challenges, collaborates with architects and cross-functional leaders, and ensures projects meet quality, timeline, budget, governance, and operational expectations. The leader also establishes a culture of continuous improvement, measurable service quality, and strong stakeholder satisfaction

Key Responsibilities:

Managing Engineering Delivery:

- Lead application development and platform engineering initiatives in partnership with technology teams, product and business partners, architects, and service providers.
- Own delivery planning, estimation, schedules, deliverables, risks, dependencies, and appropriate success metrics.
- Conduct project and programme reviews, monitor alignment with approved business cases, and ensure timely delivery within budget.
- Provide consultation and technical decision-making for routine and complex systems development.
- Coordinate with SRE, DevOps, Operations, Infrastructure, and vendor-relations teams for deployment and production support.

Engineering Standards, Governance, and Quality:

- Drive consistent adoption of application development standards, tools, SDLC practices, architecture guidance,



information-security expectations, and IT governance processes.
- Validate that requirements are complete before solution design and ensure delivery follows defined development and project-management processes.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen enterprise standards and communicate material policy or process changes to relevant teams.
- Maintain an appropriate balance between business outcomes, delivery speed, quality, and operational risk.

Stakeholder and Service Management:

- Build effective day-to-day relationships with technology teams, business partners, product owners, and service providers.
- Define and monitor service levels and reporting, validate that service outcomes meet business needs, and provide early visibility of delivery or service risks.
- Drive timely resolution of escalated delivery and production issues while minimising customer and business impact.
- Ensure service-provider obligations, outcomes, and agreements are understood and met.

Continuous Improvement and Operational Excellence:

- Establish measurable continuous-improvement practices focused on quality, consistency, reliability, and stakeholder satisfaction.
- Use relevant delivery and operational metrics, such as CMMI-aligned or comparable measures, to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
- Act on feedback from project surveys, service reviews, retrospectives, and production insights.

People Leadership and Capability Building:

- Directly manage, coach, and develop software engineers and other team members, building technical depth, accountability, and succession capability.
- Create short-term resource plans, clarify priorities, and enable teams to execute effectively in a high-pressure, matrixed environment.
- Mentor peers and team members, foster an inclusive and collaborative culture, and model Marriott values.

Strategy and Business Partnership:

- Provide input to technology strategy, planning, budgets, and investment decisions.
- Translate technical considerations into clear business language and recommend practical courses of action.
- Partner with product owners and discipline leaders to shape innovative solutions to complex business problems.

Skills and Experience:

- 12+ years of application-development experience, including leadership of complex engineering delivery.
- 5+ years of architecture experience with proven delivery across enterprise-scale integrations and high-throughput systems.
- Demonstrated experience directly managing cross-functional, sourced, or matrixed teams.
- Experience delivering in agile and waterfall environments; knowledge of Agile methodologies, preferably SAFe.
- Strong understanding of SDLC and ITIL v3 practices.
- Proven ability to prioritise and execute in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while managing multiple workstreams.
- Strong stakeholder management, negotiation, influencing, facilitation, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to assess customer needs, translate technical concepts into clear business language, and influence decisions.
- Experience working in a product-based operating model and partnering with product owners to solve complex business problems.
- Strong knowledge of production-platform operations, reliability, observability, and service management.
- Hands-on understanding of Java, NoSQL, Spring Boot, Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud technologies.
- Experience with SRE, DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, logging, metrics, monitoring, tracing, automated testing, performance engineering, release management, and application deployment.
- Understanding of API platforms, backend services, databases, networking, and full-stack infrastructure components.
- Working knowledge of hospitality loyalty financial processes and computational transaction flows, including funding, billing, reimbursement, invoicing, accruals, revenue recognition, reconciliation, and end-to-end financial transaction lifecycle management across integrated business and technology platforms would be a big plus

Education and Certifications:

- Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience/certification
