Designation - Manager - International Operations

Location – Gandhinagar

About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on, data-driven International Operations Manager to own production performance at our US manufacturing facility, managed remotely from India.

The US facility runs two businesses – Signage & Display and Furniture business – each with its own products, processes and customers. This role is accountable for every production KPI across both: planning and plan release, adherence to ship-by dates, material readiness, wastage, efficiency and productivity. The incumbent will align US processes with the standards proven at our India manufacturing facility and give management a clear monthly view of operational performance.

Position details

Designation: International Operations Manager – US Manufacturing

Function: Operations – International (US Manufacturing)

Reporting to: Central PPC Head

Location: Gandhinagar, Gujarat (Managing US operations remotely)

Experience: 8 – 10 years

Working hours: India-based, with a daily overlap of at least 3 – 4 hours with US plant hours

Travel: Periodic visits to the US plant for audits and process rollout

Key Responsibilities

Production planning and plan release

- Prepare and release the daily and weekly production plan for both businesses, sequenced by ship-by dates, capacity and material availability.
- Balance load across work centres, shifts and manpower; adjust the plan for rush orders, rework and changing priorities.
- Run a daily planning call with US plant leads to review yesterday’s output and lock today’s priorities.

Plan adherence and on-time shipment

- Track adherence to the released plan by work centre and by order, and escalate risks to ship-by dates early.
- Own on-time-in-full (OTIF) delivery performance and drive recovery plans for late or at-risk orders.

- Coordinate with Sales and Customer Service on revised commitments when dates cannot be met.

Material availability

- Work closely with the India-based Material Planning team so that raw material, hardware and consumables are available before each job is released.
- Run material-readiness checks against the plan and flag shortages, substitutes and expedite needs.
- Support inventory accuracy and the reduction of stock-outs and excess stock.

Wastage tracking and reduction

- Set up and run wastage tracking by process, material and root cause.
- Report scrap, offcut and rework rates; lead root-cause analysis and corrective action against targets.
- Improve material yield through nesting, cutting optimisation and offcut reuse.

Efficiency and productivity improvement

- Measure labour efficiency, machine utilisation and OEE for key equipment such as CNC routers, printers, panel saws and edge banders.
- Remove bottlenecks and improve throughput, changeover time and first-pass yield.
- Drive improvement in output per labour hour and conversion cost per unit in both businesses.

Process standardisation and verification

- Map current US processes and align them with the standard processes followed at the India manufacturing facility, adapted for US products and workforce.
- Write and roll out SOPs, work instructions and checklists.
- Verify compliance through audits, data checks and video walk-throughs, and verify the accuracy of production data reported by the plant.

Day-to-day problem solving

- Act as the first point of escalation for daily issues – breakdowns, quality problems, material shortages, manpower gaps and urgent orders.
- Use structured methods (5 Why, fishbone, 8D, PDCA) to fix root causes, not symptoms.
- Maintain an action tracker and close actions with clear owners and dates.

Process review and optimisation

- Benchmark current processes against industry standards and Lean practice (5S, Kaizen, SMED, TPM).
- Recommend and lead optimisation projects with clear business cases covering cost, capacity, lead time and quality.
- Identify automation and layout improvement opportunities for both businesses.

KPI reporting and management review

- Build and maintain an operations KPI dashboard for both businesses.
- Present monthly operations performance to management: trends, gaps to target, root causes, actions and improvement plans.
- Share weekly KPI snapshots with US plant leadership and the India team.

Scope boundary

This role plans, releases and drives production at the US plant and is accountable for its operations KPIs.

Material requirement planning and purchasing sit with the India Material Planning and Procurement teams; this role is accountable for confirming material readiness against the plan and escalating risk early. Day-to-day shop-floor supervision sits with US plant leadership, who execute the plan this role releases.

What success looks like in the first 90 days

- A daily production plan released for both businesses, with plan adherence tracked and reviewed every day.
- A baseline KPI dashboard in place, with targets agreed with management.
- Wastage tracking running by material, process and root cause in both businesses.
- Gap assessment of US processes against India standards completed, with a rollout plan agreed.
- At least one measurable improvement in OTIF, wastage or efficiency delivered and evidenced.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline.
- Master’s degree (e.g., M.Tech, MBA or PGDM in Operations) preferred.
- Specialisation in Production or Industrial Engineering is good to have.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt is an advantage.

Experience

- 8 to 10 years in manufacturing, including 5 to 6 years in production planning and operations management roles.
- Proven experience managing operations remotely across countries or time zones – for example, running a US, European or offshore plant from India.
- Hands-on experience releasing production plans and owning adherence to customer ship dates in a made-to-order or job-shop environment.
- Track record of improving operations KPIs such as OTIF, wastage, efficiency and OEE, with measurable results.
- Experience standardising processes across multiple sites.
- A valid US business visa (B1/B2) is an added advantage.

Technical Skills

- Production planning and scheduling, capacity planning and MRP fundamentals.
- Lean manufacturing – 5S, Kaizen, SMED, TPM, value-stream and process mapping.
- Line balancing and bottleneck analysis.
- Root-cause analysis and problem-solving tools (5 Why, fishbone, 8D, PDCA).
- Firsthand experience with an ERP system – SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Epicor or equivalent.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and dashboarding in Power BI or similar.

Competencies

- Leads and influences a team without being on site, through clear cadence, data and accountability.
- Excellent written and spoken English; confident presenting to senior management.
- Cross-cultural awareness and the ability to build trust with US supervisors and shop-floor teams.
- Takes ownership of outcomes rather than of tasks.
- Calm, structured decision-making under daily operational pressure.
- Comfortable with remote audits, video walk-throughs and digital collaboration tools.

Preferred Industry Experience

- Signage and display manufacturing
- Furniture and woodworking
- Sheet-metal and fabrication
- Digital and large format printing
- Custom or made-to-order manufacturing
